Honored to meet today with the @CanEmbUSA to introduce the new Everett Center for Global Religious Freedom and discuss ways we can partner around the shared value of religious freedom. It was encouraging to explore opportunities for collaboration. Grateful for the conversation.

Part of the chain of events leading to our anthem is John Hodges, the only person tried for treason in the War of 1812. His "crime"? Holding British soldiers in this tavern near DC, who Dr. Beanes had arrested for looting, who Key then had to negotiate for. #HistoriaObscura
To mark the World Cup, we start a new series on @TheRestHistory about NATIONAL ANTHEMS. Today: the USA. Features Star-Spangled Banners, the burning of the White House, ancient Greek poets, British melodies, accusations of racism, & Jimi Hendrix. linktr.ee/restishistory

Oppressors often rely on old but effective tools of repression. C.S. Lewis captured the power of imagination in Mere Christianity: “How monotonous alike all the great tyrants and conquerors have been: how gloriously different are the saints.” #WellSaid

Pleased that our article "Freedom of Religion or Belief and Cultural Heritage Protection: Synergistic not Competitive" is now open access. We document the siloed but interconnected fields of FoRB and CHP and highlight unrealized synergies. tandfonline.com/doi/epdf/10.…

The growing crackdown on the Baháʼí community in Iran is alarming, with arrests, property seizures, and broader repression tied to the regime’s human rights abuses. It's great this tragedy has gained greater visibility because of actor Anthony Azizi speaking publicly about it.

Appreciate @WSJ publishing my Letter to the Editor about a recent opinion piece conflating religious coercion with individual freedom. I agree that “people have a right to stay in their religion,” and I will defend their choice.

Everyone has the right to hold any belief or non-belief, free from discrimination, violence, or coercion. However, the article overlooks the threat of governments using their power to punish or suppress individual religious decisions. Find my letter here: wsj.com/opinion/religious-pl…

Productive conversation today with @AnaIreneDelgado, Ambassador for Panama to the @OEA_oficial, about religious freedom in the Americas. Panama’s commitment to religious freedom for all and its religiously diverse society offers a positive example for the region and beyond.
