A thrilling match of the #WorldCup2026 between #Iran and #NewZealand played before a packed LA stadium of 70,000 fans just ended in a 2-2 draw. A match which Iran should have won as they were a better team.

Differences of opinion exist in all societies. It’s only in our country that they are not tolerated. A single post or a comment can trigger a flood of unfiltered abuses, in which even ladies are not spared. It’s sad.

Many mix veggies or pulses with meat. The oddest dish I ever had was pumpkin (کدو) cooked with chicken in a thick curry. Have little liking for kadu, but the dish was finger-lickin ' good. What is the oddest combination you have ever had?

We are a unique nation. The rise in prices doesn’t affect us. With vehicle prices rising, their sales shot up. Similarly, the increase in petrol prices has increased its sales. The highest number of online orders for multinational food products is placed in Pakistan. The annual sale of ladies' fabrics attracts record crowds. There was no let-up during recent Ramadan & Eid buying, people spent money as if there won’t be another day. Being frugal is just not in our genes.

Relationships today have become increasingly virtual. Conversations have turned into text messages. Anger is expressed through deleting, unfriending, or blocking, feelings are often reduced to status updates and emojis. Just as we have gradually forgotten how to write with a pen, I fear we may soon forget how to express genuine emotions without a keyboard and a screen. In a world more connected than ever, meaningful human connection seems to be slipping further away.

"I am a firm believer in telepathy, the idea that when you think of someone, they are thinking of you at that exact same moment. Whether that realization brings comfort or unease simply depends on how you feel about them."

I still can't understand why some people find it amusing to post photos of those who have died in road accidents, fires, or other disasters. Some even share images of them in the morgue. Let's show respect for the feelings of their loved ones. A simple post and a few words of sympathy should be enough.

Summers remind me of long summer vacations we used to have in our school days. Looking for enjoyment and spending carefree days with no school. The only worry used to be the homework which was never completed inviting the wrath of the teachers after the schools reopened.

A Doctor's comment on #Budget2026_2027 "It is a healthy budget, medically approved—no sugar, no meat, no oil, no veggies and no carbs. Walk and walk some more instead of using expensive fuel and vehicles. Pay more taxes and heavy utility bills. Keep worrying and remain in constant tension to reduce weight." 🙉🙈🙊

Your success and contentment in life are enough to create enemies. The higher your graph, the greater their number. It is strange that some of them might not even be known to you, but still, they would disparage your success. Ignore them and be grateful to God for what you have.

Have you ever noticed that there are certain songs you instantly like as soon as you hear them? You appreciate the vocals, the music, and the lyrics, and you instantly find yourself humming them. Similarly, there are some people in your life with whom you connect right away upon meeting. Although the opportunity to make new friends tends to decrease as one gets older, there is still a chance to form connections, especially with those who have a pleasing personality.

Universities in KP are struggling to pay salaries and pensions, highlighting the deep financial crisis facing higher education. The Agriculture University has reportedly had to take a loan just to meet these obligations. What a tragic and unsustainable situation. I met a retired professor yesterday who said he was facing severe financial hardship due to delayed pension payments. In despair, he remarked that teachers cannot resort to roadblocks or damage public property to press their demands, referring to local government employees who recently set a government vehicle on fire while protesting unpaid salaries. A society that fails to honor its commitments to its teachers and pensioners risks undermining the very foundations of its future.

Parents of a 3-year-old child paying Rs 40,000 per month in school fees for a nursery class remind me of our days. We paid a modest Rs 35/- per semester for our MA at Peshawar University. A rent of Rs 10/- per month for a room with an attached bath at International Hall and Rs 120/- as hostel mess dues. It seems we received an education for next to nothing or perhaps more like at a charitable institution for a very small sum.
