In 2019, @jdtarnas et al. reported hydrated silica in and around Jezero with 9(!) different hypotheses for its origin. Bykov et al. have now significantly narrowed down the options for this astrobiologically important mineral on Mars! bit.ly/3PhEhX2

The latest Perseverance rover results reveal that carbonates in Jezero crater likely formed right where they sit, potentially aided by hydrothermal and lake activity. This "in-situ" carbonation might be the secret to how Mars stored its carbon. 🌋💧 bit.ly/48YrRKd

When we selected Jezero crater as the landing site for #Mars2020, it was dependent on the rover’s landing technology working the way we expect it to. This week we completed our reviews of the system, determining that we can move forward, full steam ahead! go.nasa.gov/38zqOiW
