CS Duale Announces Upgrade of Balambala Hospital to Level 5 Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has announced that Balambala Sub-County Hospital will be upgraded to a Level 5 facility to expand access to specialized healthcare in Garissa County and the wider North Eastern region. CS Duale made the announcement during an inspection tour of the project, where he assessed the progress of construction. He said the 150-bed hospital is about 70 per cent complete and will serve as a major referral centre once operational. The Cabinet Secretary noted that the upgraded facility will offer specialized outpatient and inpatient services. It will also provide surgical care, maternity and newborn services, as well as enhanced diagnostic capabilities. He said the expansion will reduce the need for residents to travel long distances in search of advanced medical treatment in one of Kenya’s historically underserved regions. Duale reaffirmed the national government’s commitment to equitable healthcare access. He added that the project supports the broader goal of achieving Universal Health Coverage through sustained investment in health infrastructure. The CS urged the contractor to maintain quality standards and complete the project on schedule. He also said the hospital is awaiting formal commissioning by President William Ruto once construction is finalized.
