GARISSA — Cabinet Secretary for Health Aden Duale has called on security agencies to act swiftly against youthful gangs behind a series of stabbing and robbery incidents that have instilled fear among residents in Garissa Town.
Speaking during a tour of Balambala Constituency, Garissa County on Saturday, Duale condemned the rising violence, describing it as unacceptable, and urged the swift prosecution of perpetrators to restore public safety and confidence.
“Violence remains unacceptable, and I therefore urged the swift prosecution of those responsible,” Duale said.
The remarks come amid growing public outrage over knife-wielding gangs, often operating on motorbikes, who have been robbing residents at knifepoint and carrying out brazen daylight attacks.
Recent incidents include the fatal stabbing of a 25-year-old United States citizen of Somali descent in Bula Mzuri area, as well as attacks on other residents, such as Ahmed Adan, who was stabbed multiple times along Forest Road after resisting a phone snatch.
Local leaders and residents have repeatedly raised concerns about the gangs, many linked to areas like Bula Iftin and Garissa Ndogo, demanding stronger security intervention to curb the wave of crime.
