They had the capital. They had the head start. They had every reason to see this coming.
And even now, they are out here explaining why India should not build frontier models.

The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees.
The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance.
Access to all other Claude models is not affected.
We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible.

The release of Fable 5 and everything around it made one thing clear:
The big labs will play wicked games to restrict access to intelligence.
And it will have consequences. On knowledge workers right away. On the larger population eventually.
We at @eigenlabs do not think this has to be the only outcome. Individual agency and dignity are paramount.
People deserve the capability to access intelligence and to help move it forward.
Darkbloom by @gajesh and ecdsa fail by @bbuddha_xyz already showed that it is possible. More to come.

For a techie making ₹8 LPA in India, a $100/month Claude Max plan is almost 15% of their monthly salary.
The rupee keeps falling, so these tools just keep getting pricier.
At some point, this is going to hurt Indian IT and techies badly. And it is not like there is a Pradhan Mantri Ladla techie Labh Yojana coming to save anyone.

I have met so many insanely talented, genuinely remarkable builders who are interested in research and solving hard problems.
Most of them don’t come from elite schools, elite labs, or perfect networks.
But with AI and open benchmarks, they can now participate in frontier research in a way that was not possible before.
And with internet-scale coordination, the next scientific breakthrough may come from builders who don’t fit the traditional researcher profile.
Hence, science belongs to everyone is an important declaration and matters more than before.

If you are a solo builder, start treating AI token consumption as an expense.
Serial vibe coding is a curse. It keeps you at arm’s length from monetization while making you feel productive.
Either treat every vibe-coded project that does not turn into revenue as burn,
or only keep building when you have a clear sense of what the thing can become.
