This is something I wrote to go a bit deeper on how I teach game design and how I run the MA in Independent Games at Goldsmiths. Retweets and likes are appreciated and very helpful, as well as comments from students. medium.com/virgo-rising/abou…

People calling Nintendo hypocritical for going after emulators and using them in their museum tend to be the same using emulators to steal switch games and play them on another device. Which has very little to do with preserving the history of games.

I sincerely support emulators for preserving old games, BUT let's be honest. Most people are not interested in that, and the only reason why Nintendo has gone after emulation is because of Switch piracy.

And TBF I do think that any emulator of an existing and still on sale, fully supported system (meaning: current generation) is threatening the real emulation scene and going against videogame preservation.

We all need Zelda energy. Low on health and exhausted? Pop out a bed and take a nap, no matter where you are.

Also please help me spread the voice. Having people playing games is very important for the students :) And it's fun!

Not very happy with the trend of souls like combat in metroidvania games. I think it unnecessarily raises stress and takes away from the pleasure of exploration and finding hidden places. Both Metroid and Castlevania were great at keeping a bit of challenge without being brutal.

I have started using Obsidian, and it's SO GOOD. So much better than Notion in organizing knowledge (Notion is better at other things, though). I think it's a great game design tool as well.

My next book is *The Internet Con: How to Seize the Means of Computation.* It's a recipe to disenshittify the web and bring back the old good internet. The book is from @VersoBoooks, but the #audiobook is from me - because Amazon refuses to sell it: kickstarter.com/projects/doc… 1/

One of my obsession in teaching and practicing game design is the study of spaces. So sad to see that Marc Augé, who is central to some of my lectures, has passed away.

This saddens me. Rest in peace, Trevor. I remember you the very first times my uncle brought me to see a game.
Rest in peace, Trevor #Francis. 💔

I mean, at this point Elon Musk is the perfect demonstration that we shouldn't let people become super rich.
