Housing affordability is a massive issue almost everywhere.
Thank god remote work has helped some be more flexible on where they can live. Imagine how bad this would be if all tech workers were still forced to live in NY and San Francisco.

Clients won’t take you seriously, perspective employees won’t take you seriously. Even your friends, your families, your old colleagues don't. Because why would they? You have nothing. It takes years before you can build up anything of value to anybody.

Hiring the first employee in a new country is always a weird experience.
I interviewed an engineer who never heard of Columbia University or Boston Consulting Group.
He thought I was scamming him.

He thought I was making up my degrees and old jobs. I mean I was shocked and confused and a little annoyed.
But I understood where he was coming from. There’s so many scam artists out there trying to recruit people from other countries.

I had to completely change my approach in recruiting him.
He ended up only taking the job because we were willing to pay the first month’s salary upfront.
I guess “money talks” is true after all. 😂
