This year #E3B seminar series at @ETH_en/@UZH_ch ended with an amazing talk from @multicellgenome on animals' origin. It was a blast haiving Iñaki here, sharing scientific ideas and career experiences. Looking forward to get to know the #magnificent8!
Our team is on a mission to find the 'Magnificent 8'-eight elusive lineages closely related to animals but yet to be discovered. eDNA data suggests this glacial Spanish lake may harbor some of those "known unknown" relatives. So, here we are! Could this serene spot hold the key to understanding the origin of animals? Stay tuned! 🌊🔬 🎥: Pablo Martin Lerma 🎶: @helloaudiio @ERC_Research @IBE_Barcelona @CSICCat #Magnificent8 #KnownUnknowns #Biodiversity

I had quite some fun drawing this cover for @GenomeBiolEvol linked to the recent paper from @SWielgoss and colleagues on M. xanthus mutation rate and effective population size. Read more about it here doi.org/10.1093/gbe/evae066

This is great stuff! Is embryonal-like multicellular development ancestral to animals? Is (crazy) convergent evolution due to the inherent properties of cellular multicellularity? It's fascinating, and it raises so many questions! x.com/dudin_o/status/1772248…

When it comes to publishing, a young scientist can listen to science twitter that talks about the DORA declaration, preprints, & post publication peer review. Or they can listen to ERC consolidator grant reviewers who mostly rewarded people w/ multiple Nature & Cell family pubs.

Does morphology of microbial development evolve latently, and how? In our recent study nature.com/articles/s42003-0… together with @OlayaRendueles, we try to address this question using #Myxo.

An evolution experiment with the predatory bacterium Myxococcus xanthus reveals the potential for ecological factors to impact the evolution of multicellular morphology latently, rather than via direct selection. @lafortma, @OlayaRendueles nature.com/articles/s42003-0…

Aggregative #multicellularity has been described in a few taxa but it is present in all eukaryotic superclades. It seems like an uncommon type of multicellularity. Yes, it does. However, I bet it will be less and less uncommon the more we study different #protists along the tree.
