He claims that he gave Iran a 60-day deadline to reach a deal, but they refused, and “on the 61st, you saw what happened.”
Here’s my perspective:
Trump has been preventing Israel from attacking Iran, giving them a chance to resolve the issue diplomatically without resorting to direct war. Iran rejected Trump’s offer to abandon its nuclear program, so Trump stepped aside for Netanyahu.
Now, Trump asserts that Iran wants to make a deal.
Trump has demonstrated to Iran that he is not bluffing and that he follows through on his threats. He has essentially shown Iran that their survival depends on Trump’s protection. Trump’s actions have been akin to a mafia boss’s tactics.
I don’t necessarily agree with Trump’s approach, but that’s my interpretation of the situation.
Furthermore, I don’t believe Trump has any intention of directly dragging the US into this conflict. He has no desire for a prolonged war involving US troops. His primary goal is for Iran to submit, abandon its nuclear program, and reach an economic agreement.
If Iran chooses to make a deal, Trump will step back and allow Netanyahu to proceed.
