What sounds more interesting: a comprehensive introduction to linguistics for regular people, or a language learning accelerator using scientific best practices and cutting edge tech (AI, LLMs, etc.)?

Whether he intended that word, and what to do with this information is a separate question, but it is clearly the “n-word” and not an articulatory misfire, at least not below the level of a lexical item.

Coming back from a Twitter Hiatus to share this thread and article. I’ve been waiting excitedly for this to come to print!

It’s wild to have watched “cope” become its own antonym over the course of like 3 years

I’m not a fan of X, obviously, but it seems like moving the #LSA2024 hashtag to an invite-only platform is not in-line with @LingSocAm’s stated goals on inclusion. Is there an official channel, open to everyone, not reliant on a handful of linguist’s limited number of invites?

We don’t want scholars’ ability to access their colleagues’ and peers’ professional conversation to be reliant on a handful of gatekeepers deciding who gets to participate, do we? How does this affect scholars they don’t already know? Those who are late to ask for an invite?

But please @LingSocAm PLEASE provide an alternative to X! Nobody needs to be subjected to wading through the rest of what is on here to access the conversation around #LSA2024

It wasn’t a typo! Wondering if LSA is accepting nominations for destinations…

Thank you for picking this up. We are still working on our options for 2025 and 2026. #LSA2024 is the center of attention right now :)

Did I miss a memo about the LSA skipping two years or is this just the level of attention to detail I’ve come to expect?

I left for a while, came back, saw that it was worse and my predictions about where it would go are coming true. Many of my friends and colleagues refuse to leave, I thought coming back might help, but apparently they like it here and like the direction things are going

This is not another “twitter is toxic” thread, though Twitter is. I used to monitor the chans and the_donald and so on to see what was festering on the Internet before it was laundered for the mainstream. X is now indistinguishable from those.

For all who were harmed by my careless tweet while studying during naptime, I sincerely apologize. I have taken the time to listen & reflect, & I see gender agreement on the noun now. I will be taking this time to focus on family, and strive to do better in the future. Plz no Qs
