Our next student feature shines on Taiwo Goodness UKWEDJE, a 300-level student of the Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering, Epe, and a recent winner of the ₦50 Million Student Venture Capital Grant. #WeAreProud Popularly know as Dymsy, Taiwo is someone deeply driven by curiosity, self-development. His passion for entrepreneurship and innovation was born from his ability to identify problems and create solutions from scratch. He is the founder of a digital rental accommodation brand (D-Rentals). A verified housing platform designed to eliminate accommodation fraud targeting students. Taiwo’s journey into tech and innovation began early in his academic career. In 200-level, he participated in the Nexus Hackathon, where his team emerged 3rd in an Engineering Design Sprint. This experience marked the beginning of his coding and product development journey, which he further strengthened by venturing into Data Analysis. Furthermore, his commitment towards growth yielded tangible achievements, as in 200 level, Taiwo secured a ₦500,000 grant after presenting his product at UNILAG. Beyond achievements, Taiwo’s journey has been one of personal transformation. He admits that stepping out of his comfort zone — especially in speaking, teamwork, and collaboration — played a major role in his growth. He was also a participant in the Duke of Edinburgh Award, where he earned Bronze in (SSCE), Silver in 100 level, and Gold award in 200-level, reflecting his dedication to long-term personal development and discipline. Looking ahead, Taiwo has clear goals. He aims to scale his products, build digital infrastructure that improves student life, and expand solutions around rental accommodation and student marketplaces. He has also set an ambitious financial goal of reaching ₦100 Million, before the year ends. However, beyond financial success, he emphasizes impact. He is inspired by mentors like Rocky Fela, and Tunde Onakoya and believes in building with structure, discipline, and long-term vision. His advice to students is simple: identify problems, take action, and don’t be afraid to start from nothing. ✍️: Nimah Kareem Editor, LASU Life.

University Spotlight Lagos State University (LASU) Location: Ojo, Lagos State, Nigeria Year Established: 1983 Type: State University Motto: For Truth and Service 📝Admission Requirements General Entry Conditions ✔ UTME Score: Candidates must score a minimum of 195 in the UTME to be eligible for LASU’s post-UTME screening. (This is the general CUT OFF, competitive courses typically require much higher scores.) ✔ O’Level Requirements: Five (5) credit passes in relevant subjects including: English Language Mathematics Other subjects relevant to the intended course Credits must be obtained in not more than two sittings. ✔ Age Requirement: Candidates should be at least 16 years old by October 1st of the admission year. 📝 LASU Post-UTME Screening 📍Registration: Eligible candidates must register online during the specified Screening registration period on LASU’s admissions portal. 📍Screening Method: LASU’s screening is usually based on: UTME score Olevel results There is no written screening exam 📝Departmental Competitiveness; 📍Although the general minimum is 195, competitive courses require significantly higher scores. Medicine & Surgery — 250 Law — 250 Nursing — 250 Engineering — 220 Accounting — 220 Computer Science — 210 Mass Communication — 210 Political Science — 200 These figures fluctuate yearly depending on applicant performance and available quota. 📝Admission List & CAPS; Successful candidates will be published on: 📍The LASU admission portal 📍JAMB CAPS 📝Indigeneship Verification (IIVE) LASU gives preference to Lagos State indigenes through the Indigeneship Verification Exercise (IIVE). 📝Eligibility for LASU IIVE; ✔ Must be a Lagos State indigene ✔ Must score at least 195 in UTME ✔ Must choose LASU as first choice ✔ Applies to both UTME and Direct Entry 📝IIVE Process; Apply via the LASU IIVE Portal Submit required documentation Attend physical verification in your local government area Successful candidates receive a clearance certificate for use in admission processing 📝Subject Combination Warning; Before choosing LASU, confirm your UTME subject combination matches your intended course. Many candidates are disqualified last year not because of low scores but because of wrong subject combinations. Always check the JAMB brochure carefully. 📝Strategic Advice for Applicants; • Aim well above the minimum score • Be realistic about competitive courses • Monitor CAPS consistently after screening • Complete documentation early • Ensure your O’Level subjects align properly • Use the indigeneship advantage if eligible LASU is competitive. Admission requires preparation and accurate positioning.
I will be starting a structured review of these universities shortly. We’ll examine their cut-off marks, competitiveness, and key admission considerations to help candidates make informed decisions this admission season. If you’re writing JAMB this year, follow closely. Good morning.

LASU GETS TETFUND N3 BILLION CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE FOR AI, ROBOTICS AND CYBER SCIENCES Lagos State University has emerged the sole beneficiary institution for the establishment of a Tertiary Education Trust Fund Centre of Excellence on Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Cyber Sciences (ARCS) in Southwest Nigeria. Under the 2026 Special Intervention Projects allocation, TETFund has approved the sum of Three Billion Naira (₦3,000,000,000.00) for the establishment of the Centre, which will drive research, innovation, and capacity development in Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Robotics, Coding, and related digital technologies. LASU's selection followed a rigorous national evaluation process in which the university distinguished itself through demonstrated capacity, existing institutional infrastructure, and a verifiable track record of excellence in emerging digital technologies. The recognition affirms Lagos State University's well-earned standing as the "Most Digitally Advanced State University in Nigeria", a position built through years of deliberate and sustained investment in Information, Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure, digitised academic and administrative systems, and a clear institutional commitment to technology-driven education. The University Management under the leadership of Distinguished Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola OLATUNJI-BELLO, mni, NPOM, described the approval as both a recognition of what has been achieved, and a responsibility toward what remains to be done. The Centre is expected to further consolidate LASU's leadership in technology education, whilst equipping young Nigerians with the critical digital competencies required to participate meaningfully in the global knowledge economy. The initiative aligns directly with TETFund's national mandate to strengthen Nigeria's technological capabilities, close the widening digital skills gap, and prepare the next generation of Nigerians for opportunities in an increasingly technology-dependent world. The Lagos State University Management expressed profound gratitude to the Federal Government and TETFund for this significant investment, and reaffirmed the University's unwavering commitment to maximising the Centre's impact, not only for its students and staff, but for the wider Nigerian society that this institution was established to serve. The Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola OLATUNJI-BELLO, mni, NPOM, congratulates the entire Lagos State University community on this landmark achievement. We Are LASU. We Are Great. Signed: Olaniyi S. JEARIOGBE (Mr) Chief Public Relations Officer/Head, Media Relations Unit, For: Deputy Registrar/Coordinator, Centre for Information and Public Relations, CIPR-LASU
