It was a real privilege to attend the International Summit on the Teaching Profession in Estonia last week. There was a powerful discussion amongst ministers and educators about the critical role teachers play in shaping young lives and how partnership with the teaching profession is as vital as ever in our rapidly changing world. I am also thrilled to announce that next year it will be our turn, as the UK hosts the 2027 edition! A huge opportunity to welcome the world's education leaders and shine a light on our incredible teachers.

On Monday, we set out our plans for SEND reform, shaped by the ideas and insights of families, young people, teachers, support staff and practitioners from around the country. But this is far from the end of our work. Now that we have a set of proposals, we want as many of you as possible to share your views through our consultation. In doing so you will help us ensure we deliver the generational change our children deserve.

‘We want to be seen and our voices heard in every decision that impacts our lives’. Thanks to @KidsCharity for facilitating a powerful session in Manchester on Tuesday with a group of incredible young people with SEND, as part of our national conversation. The group talked about the need for schools to see all of their needs and respond to them, the importance of mentors and role models with lived experience and how listening to young people needs to be at the heart of our plans.

Children with SEND and their families have told us they don’t feel heard - we are determined to change that. This week we launched what we hope will be the biggest national conversation on SEND in a generation, putting the experiences of families at the heart of efforts to shape a system that works for everyone. Very happy indeed that the government will create an oracy framework to ensure all children are fluent, confident speakers and listeners by 11 and an oracy, reading and writing framework whole school strategy, to develop all three skills in curriculum subjects. @OracyCambridge

We welcome the government’s plan to introduce a national oracy framework – a major step towards giving spoken language its rightful place in education. We look forward to working with @educationgovuk to support its careful implementation and bring about lasting change.
