Based on the ₦18 million @OPay_NG × @googleafrica National Innovation Challenge I posted about, let me answer some of the questions here. And if you haven't applied yet, this thread is your final nudge.
1. The challenge is open to students from ANY tertiary institution in Nigeria. University, polytechnic, college of education. It doesn't matter where you are. Your school qualifies.
2. About the whole team thing, you have 3 days left. Talk to 4 people today, not tomorrow. Today. The best teams aren't always the ones who planned the longest. They're the ones who moved fastest.
3. Build your team: 2 developers, 1 designer, and 2 people with product thinking. That's the structure I'd go with.
4. On the idea part, you don't need a finished product. You need a compelling, clearly articulated solution to a real problem. Use AI tools to sharpen your concept into a clear PRD. That's your submission foundation.
The deadline is Sunday, June 14. The application takes minutes.
What takes time is getting your team aligned and your idea sharp. Do that today at: opayweb.com/innovation-chall…#NationalInnovationChallenge#OPayScholars2026#OPayxGoogle2026
Don't be fooled by the allure of remote tech jobs. It is the vestige of a dying tech culture, or better still don't be caught unawares.
The era has passed when you learn a skill to get a job, or worse still, build an entire career around a skill.
It simply becomes a super knowledgeable co-worker. The question simply shifted from what skill do I learn to what problem do I solve.
We all know that Rome was not built in a day, what is rather unpopular is that Rome did not fall in a day.
Opportunity for student innovators: Opay Innovation Challenge 2026 is here with us.

By 2050, Africa will have the world’s largest youth population. The real challenge is preparing them to lead in the technologies of the future.
Nigeria cannot compete in the industries of tomorrow with the infrastructure of yesterday.
That is why NASENI is establishing the Sustainable Emerging Technologies Institute (SETI) in Kano.
I was pleased to host the HM @fmitiofficial, Dr. @joduwole, at the institute as we continue building a platform that bridges the gap between talent, research, and industry.
Through SETI, we are creating an environment where the next generation of innovators can develop solutions that will drive Nigeria’s industrial and technological transformation.
#InfinitePossibilities
SETI is moving, and moving well.
Every visit reminds me why we started, to give young Nigerians the space, tools, and confidence to lead in AI and emerging tech.

Nigeria faces many problems which can be solved with innovations but we're also in dire need of innovators who can solve local problems.
STEM education equips students with the right mindset to approaching problems. If we don't get education right, it'll affect every other thing.
