Liverpool's response to the reported interest in Rio Ngumoha was highly indicative of their strategic approach, aligning with Andoni Iraola's clear vision. It has been two years since Rio Ngumoha and his family opted to depart Chelsea, seeking a more direct route to first-team Premier League football, an opportunity Liverpool was prepared to provide. He subsequently signed his inaugural professional contract in September, shortly after his 17th birthday, securing his commitment to the club for the duration of his teenage years. Prior to the official confirmation of his transfer, he was characterized to the ECHO as "potentially elite," a description he has rapidly substantiated, ascending to the periphery of the England squad currently on the cusp of a World Cup. As of last week, Liverpool had reportedly not been approached by Bayern Munich and has no intention of engaging in discussions regarding a player they aim to retain for the foreseeable future. The club even expressed a degree of surprise upon learning of Bayern's interest. Liverpool, in fact, intends to reinforce its wide attacking positions this summer, with Yan Diomande of RB Leipzig, another promising young talent, identified as a target to support the transition into a new era under Andoni Iraola. The sale of Ngumoha does not align with this long-term strategy. Not yet 18 until August, the club believes he is ideally positioned to fulfill his considerable potential under a manager renowned for his exceptional track record in developing young forwards. #lfc #ynwa #anfield

Liverpool Football Club has announced the anticipated departures of Sipke Hulshoff, Ruben Peeters, and Giovanni van Bronckhorst from its coaching staff. Mr. Hulshoff, who served as the first assistant coach, and Mr. Peeters, the lead physical performance coach, joined the Reds as integral members of Arne Slot's new backroom team following his appointment as head coach in the summer of 2024. Mr. Van Bronckhorst, a former Netherlands international, joined Liverpool last summer to assume an assistant coaching role within Mr. Slot's organizational structure. #lfc #ynwa #anfield

John Barnes on Rio Ngumoha: "Just leave him be and let him grow. Theo Walcott went to the World Cup at 16, and if you want him to get better, you can't make too big a deal out of him. He's not even playing for Liverpool. He's a sub for Liverpool, so until he's consistently in the team and playing well, don't put the pressure on him. That's why I'm glad he didn't play much last year in a struggling Liverpool team, because if they're not doing well and he loses confidence, it could really mess him up. Let him develop at his own pace. So the fact he's not in Liverpool's team, and I hope Arsenal does the same with Max Dowman, just leave them alone. If you're not playing for Arsenal or Liverpool regularly, why would you be playing for England?" #lfc #ynwa #anfield

On this day in 1987, Liverpool completed the signing of legendary winger John Barnes from Watford in a deal worth £900,000. Signed by Kenny Dalglish as part of a new-look Reds side, Barnes would go on to become one of the greatest players ever to wear the famous red shirt. Over a decade at Anfield, he made 407 appearances, scored 108 goals, won two First Division titles, two FA Cups and a League Cup, while dazzling supporters with his pace, power and extraordinary skill. His arrival on 9 June 1987 marked the beginning of a legacy that still places him among Liverpool’s all time greats. #lfc #ynwa #anfield

international debut for England as "an extraordinary experience." He stated, "I was delighted and energized. I was aware from our pre-match briefing that we would have a first-half and a second-half squad, so I was preparing accordingly. "It was beneficial that I didn't have extensive time to dwell on it, yet I wasn't overly anxious, to be candid. My primary objective was to participate and demonstrate my capabilities. Ultimately, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience." The young athlete continued, "I was at home when I received a call from John McDermott, FA Director of Football, who inquired about my well-being and extended an invitation to join the training squad in Miami to support the pre-camp activities. "I readily accepted, stating, 'Yes, absolutely.' I approached this opportunity with an open mind, as one would never decline the chance to train with a World Cup squad, regardless of age or experience. "I understood my role was to assist the other players in their training while also showcasing my own abilities, and it has been a remarkable experience. "On the field, one is training with the world's elite players, fostering continuous learning and providing insight into their exceptional skill and caliber. "Possession of the ball demonstrates the sharpness and strategic understanding of each player, highlighting their seamless collaboration and synergy. "Off the field, the team exhibits remarkable humility and a grounded demeanor. The atmosphere is consistently pleasant, relaxed, and free from judgment.... "It is often overlooked that footballers are, at their core, ordinary individuals. The team fosters excellent interpersonal dynamics, characterized by kindness and camaraderie." #WorldCup #Football #LFC

Thank you for every unforgettable moment in a Liverpool shirt. From the Merseyside derby winners to the greatest European nights, your name became part of Liverpool folklore. “Corner taken quickly… Origi!” will live forever in the hearts of Reds around the world. Your goals against Barcelona and in the Champions League final helped deliver one of the most magical seasons in the club’s history. You may not have always been the first name on the team sheet, but when Liverpool needed a hero, you answered the call time and time again. With 41 goals in 175 appearances and every major trophy won at the club, your legacy is secure. As you announce your retirement from football at 31, Liverpool supporters everywhere thank you for the memories, the passion, and the moments that made us believe anything was possible. Football without Origi is nothing. You’ll Never Walk Alone. ❤️ Farewell, Divock. Liverpool legend forever. #lfc #ynwa #anfield

Remembering Ian St John on what would have been his 88th birthday Today we remember the great Ian St John, born on 7 June 1938 in Motherwell, Scotland. One of the finest forwards of his generation, “The Saint” was a cornerstone of Liverpool F.C. under Bill Shankly, helping transform the club into a major force in English football. He won two league titles and famously scored the winning goal in the 1965 FA Cup Final the club’s first-ever FA Cup triumph. St John also represented Scotland national football team with distinction, earning 21 caps and scoring nine goals, before moving into management and later becoming one of football’s most recognisable television personalities through Saint and Greavsie alongside Jimmy Greaves. More than his goals and trophies, Ian St John is remembered for his warmth, humour, sharp football mind, and the joy he brought to supporters on and off the pitch. His legacy remains woven into the history of Liverpool, Motherwell, Scottish football, and football broadcasting. #lfc #ynwa #anfield
