ARC DECRA fellow @ACCESS_GEOG. Social dimensions of energy transitions in urban and regional Australia. Coal, steel, built env’t. Lives for a salt water fix.
Part three of ICS Seminar Climate Change series. Thank you Chantel Carr for presenting on Climate Change Adaptation: Infrastructures Transformation and Practices of Care and Repair. Also thank you to our discussants Stephen Healy and Abby Mellick Lopes and chair Douglas Belton.
Lovely to see this pre-covid collaboration with @LouisaESmith1, @LynPhillipson and Isabelle Chesher through to a paper. In this project we sought to bring two @UOWGC-funded projects together: Connections for Life with Dementia and Future Makers. cambridge.org/core/journals/…
The paper brings themes of home and embodiment together with research on dementia and care, using body-mapping as a methodology. I learnt a lot working with @LouisaESmith1, and hope it goes some way to extending conversations on home and care for people living with dementia.
Thanks for being there Sue, research support and mentoring through @UOWASSH and @ACCESS_GEOG is invaluable - a gaggle of social sciences #DECRA and #FutureFellows are proof of that!
Thanks to @UOW_VC, DVC(R) and exec team for hosting this morning’s Fellows breakfast. Inspiring to be in the room with @UOW researchers from all disciplines and career stages.
We’re finally here! #AllhandsonDeck2023 is kicking off. A year of meetings, writing, talking, conferring, just a bit of panic! Collaborating with the fab @jesseadamsstein is a delight.
Looking forward to sharing some early thoughts on my research with Illawarra coal workers on Wednesday. There's a lot to unpack, some difficult conversations to be had, and it's unsurprising that... Place Matters!
All welcome 😀
For the final presentation in our @ACCESS_GEOG autumn seminar series we invite Dr Chantel Carr (@lifeofstuff) an ARC DECRA Fellow! All welcome to attend online or F2F - see details below: @uowresearch@UOWASSH @UOW_VC
Loving the energy efficiency in the budget but can we look beyond the eco-bling to the basics? Running heat pumps on solar is great once you've got a nice, unleaky building envelope. Insulation and draught-proofing isn't as cool, but it'll keep us warmer! theguardian.com/australia-ne…
Just received a sales call from an engineered stone manufacturer… ‘just wondered if you had any enquiries’. I haven’t worked in architecture practice since 2013. Guess sales have slowed down lately… good work @unionsaustralia
How do you gather some of your favourite people in one place to talk about work, skill and climate change? Not long until #AllHandsonDeck2023 and @jesseadamsstein and I are ramping up the planning! Schedule now released, check it out here: allhandsondeck2023.com/sympo…
Even if you didn't submit an abstract, we'd love to see you there. Registration now open - the symposium is fully funded by Jesse's DECRA, with contributions from @ACCESS_GEOG. We're excited to have loads of practitioners and policymakers in the mix!

Leaving a thoughtful, insightful fieldwork interview feeling like I’m getting somewhere, then arriving home to realise I completely missed parent-teacher interviews 🤦🏽♀️
Grateful to @DialoguesHG & @LaurenARickards for giving me space to think deeply about the work of climate change, repair & care with wonderful colleagues. The final commentary from this forum just out. Links to brill provocative responses in thread: journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.… 1/6
It was also a delight to be in dialogue with @SmithTGeo, whose work on care, degrowth and postcapitalist possibilities is always thoughtful and hopeful. I don't think I got there on transformative possibilities but will keep trying! journals.sagepub.com/doi/ful… 5/6
And finally, there is also a commentary by Stefania Barca coming soon. Stefania brings some much-needed analytical nuance to the repair scholarship - an important contribution in a burgeoning field! Will link when it's out.
