In this piece, @jnelz and I argue that newsroom social media policies exacerbate journalism's HR crisis by limiting journalistic professionalism and autonomy, both of which are crucial for job satisfaction and journalism’s democratic mission. Free prints: tandfonline.com/eprint/IEA5G…

We find that alternative media (in this study, @BreitbartNews @NEWSMAX @dailykos and @HuffPost) rely less on evidence and more on assertions than MSM. Source count in right-wing media is particularly low. And when alt media do provide sources, they are more distant from them.

As the news industry's march away from legacy formats continues, I hope scholars and media execs alike will consider what we've learned so far from the research about news on smartphones. Conveniently, my thoughts (with @lexi_haskell) were just published. taylorfrancis.com/chapters/e…

I dunno if this thing still works like it used to, but @lexi_haskell and I are studying what journalists miss about Twitter and I'm looking for interview subjects. If you're a working journalist and willing to chat, please reply; otherwise, consider retweeting? For old times sake
