The gimlet has been maligned for decades, says Ty Caudle, The Interval's beverage director, as a result of artificial ingredients and rushed preparations. The Interval recipe has corrected those deficiencies by using navy strength gin infused with lime oil and slowly filtered over three days. The resulting lime cordial is stirred (rather than shaken) to create a perfect pearlescent finish.  Our Navy Gimlet was just named best in the city by @thebolditalic, and included on this exceptional list which maps the best and most storied bars in the city. It’s an honor to be included. Check it out here: na2.hubs.ly/H0642-L0

The Sagrada Familia's Torre de Jesús is complete, 100 years after Gaudi's death. What a testament to the power of visionary thinking across generations. A masterpiece.

“The longue durée” is a world-systems analysis for understanding what 𝘯𝘰𝘵 to do. This framework has an uncanny ability to identify repeated, large-scale patterns across borders, centuries, and civilizations. James Anderson explains on Long Now Ideas: na2.hubs.ly/H0655_T0

Long Now is a devoted fan and contributor to the Long-Term Art Projects (LTAP) collective, an assembly of extraordinary artworks designed to outlive their creators and inspire the stewardship of future generations.  Here are a few from the collection: - Zeitpyramide (Time Pyramid) (since 01993): Scheduled to take 1,200 years to reach its final pyramid shape, a new concrete block is placed once every ten years, and will reach completion in the year 03193. - 7000 Eichen (7000 Oaks) (since 01982): a massive social sculpture of 7,000 oak trees, each paired with a basalt stone. - Letters of Utrecht (since 02012): An endless poem being carved letter-by-letter into the city’s cobblestones by stone masons every Saturday. - Uffington White Horse (since c. 1000 BCE): A 3,000-year-old prehistoric chalk figure has survived millennia on a hill in England thanks to local communities who continuously gather to maintain it. Such an honor that our documentary was named an official selection at the CineGlobe Film Festival in Geneva, Switzerland. Our video director, Justin Oliphant, was on the ground at CERN to celebrate. Stay tuned for more upcoming opportunities to screen Elders of Time at film festivals across the globe. And local members save the date for our San Francisco premiere Sept 29th!
Get a sneak peek into the making-of 𝘊𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘦, a monumental artwork that tells time with trees. Created by artist and conceptual philosopher @jonathonkeats, the work has two components: a giant arboreal clock built in collaboration with clockmakers Phil Abernethy and Brittany Nicole Cox, and a land art installation at Long Now’s Nevada Bristlecone Preserve. In the video below, follow the story of the land art installation at 11,000-ft elevation — where the world’s oldest trees record their own sense of time — to the horology workshop where the bespoke clock is built to translate universal standard time into "bristlecone time" for installation at the museum. How to experience 𝘊𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘦: - Join us at the 2026 Art Environment Summit Apr 16-18 to hear directly from the artists and clockmakers. - See the monumental timepiece at the Nevada Museum of Art where it is exhibited as part of their permanent collection: nevadaart.org - Stay tuned for 𝘌𝘭𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦, a documentary short about the creation of 𝘊𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘦, which is in festival selection throughout 02026; follow Long Now for future screening dates and details.

~40% of our @longnow Labs applications have come in within the last 24 hours...and we are still accepting submissions until midnight PST tonight, so the percentage will likely go higher. Apparently a huge number of us are procrastinators! Solidarity to all of you out there.

What does long-term thinking look like in practice? Introducing Long Now Labs, a collaborative space to test, prototype, and build long-term tools. Lab Series 001 is a collaboration with the Protocol Institute to investigate three aspects of civilizational durability that are being radically reshaped by frontier technologies. -> Lab 001.1: Book of Time - An open call to submit a concept for a new way of marking, experiencing, or making sense of time. -> Lab 001.2: Epistemic Cycles - Seeking an individual or team to investigate historical patterns of technological disruption that broke down society's ability to discern truth. -> Lab 001.3: Interspecies Protocols - Exploring the protocols needed to support interspecies ecologies. If you are a designer, researcher, writer, or technologist interested in the deep future, we want to hear from you. Submissions are now open. Learn more about Labs and how to apply: na2.hubs.ly/H059wn90

For 14 issues beginning in 02020, @WarpRecords published a Whole Earth Catalog-style “mixtape” of expertly curated art, music, articles, and videos. Here’s how they described it: “Warp Earth Catalog is a weekly mixtape of ideas to inspire, inform, enable and energize creativity and positivity in a time of global disruption and uncertainty. Based on the classic countercultural guide the Whole Earth Catalog and its credo of ‘access to tools’, these are tools for strength, awareness and thoughtful entertainment. From wherever in the world we are, let’s support each other, make things and help maintain the ecosystem of independent creativity.” Even years later, these issues remain highly relevant, wide ranging, and absurdly hip. Eight sophisticated civilizations across the Mediterranean collapsed within decades of 01177 BCE. What happened? Historians are still arguing about it. Archaeologist @DriesDaems explores the question: What if the very interconnectedness that made those societies powerful also made them catastrophically brittle? It’s a pattern worth investigating deeply in 02026. Read the article on Long Now Ideas: na2.hubs.ly/H05SnC10
