Not at all surprising to those working in inpatient rehab. There's a reason they're called "disadvantage" plans. Hopefully increased oversight improves access to needed rehabilitation services. #MedicareAdvantage #PMR #PatientAccess

A must-read for doctors doing botulinum toxin injections—esp. those in states under Novitas & First Coast. Grateful to their Medical Directors for working with us on a fix that protects access to spasticity care for Medicare beneficiaries with mono-, para-, & quadriplegia. @AAPMR
24 Nov 2025
Recently, several member experts in spasticity management met with leadership at First Coast Service Options and Novitas Solutions to address the list of ICD-10 diagnosis codes in the recently finalized Billing and Coding Article: Botulinum Toxins (A58423). Last month, AAPM&R expressed concern about lack of coverage for a range of patients with spasticity secondary to paralysis resulting from stroke, spinal cord injury, and other conditions not currently listed in the Billing and Coding Article. Our members had an extremely collaborative discussion with the Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) Medical Directors, working toward both a long-term and short-term solution to ensure coding options for these patients. Members who are interested in AAPM&R supporting a nomination to serve on a CAC should contact Health Policy staff at healthpolicy@aapmr.org Learn more: ow.ly/n54b50XxbT0 #physiatry #pmr

We are preparing to submit our own comments and collaborating with coalition partners on additional opposition. We urge all members to join us in submitting their own comments by Nov. 8 by accessing the LCD for their jurisdiction here: ow.ly/1Hfv50XkFR1
