Existing research finds that new housing construction is usually fiscally net positive. And even in the cases where it isn't, we should probably build the housing anyway :-)

More public $ would be great but the report's last clause is doing a lot of work: "and dismantling barriers to affordable housing construction in local zoning codes."
We could fix many (not all) of our housing woes for no public $ through zoning/permitting/building code reforms

Tons of missing middle housing and modest starter homes going up in Bozeman, Montana, where we’re visiting for a month.
It’s certainly sprawl-y, but also really exciting to be in a growing city with ambition and an eye towards the future.
