I had the opportunity to give an oral abstract presentation on our work investigating the role of endothelial protease activated receptor 1 (PAR1) in promoting BBB breakdown after ischemic stroke in #ISC26 in New Orleans last week. Here is the link: ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/…
Our results indicate that this model still needs further optimization to get reproducible stroke. The results paper from our feasibility study is out in ‘Translation Stroke Research’ journal now. Thanks and congratulations to all coauthors from the Lyden lab and SPAN network.
To increase translational relevance, we tried to standardize rat thromboembolic stroke model to assess the feasibility for using this model in the Stroke Preclinical Assessment Network (SPAN).
While thromboembolic stroke model matches more closely with the inflammatory cascades of human ischemic stroke than our popular nylon filament model, it is hard to get reproducible stroke with less mortality in this model.
I am happy to share that our method paper on optimizing and standardizing the thromboembolic model of stroke in rats for the Stroke Preclinical Assessment Network (SPAN) is online now. Thanks to all colleagues from SPAN and Lyden Lab. Here is the link:

Excited to share the preprint of a manuscript from my PhD work. We showed that delivery of chitosan-based hydrogel into the infarct cavity reduces reactive astrogliosis and promotes the proliferation of neural progenitor cells after stroke. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
From panels to keynotes to posters, the International Stroke Conference is the place to learn from the best and brightest from around the globe. Be part of the conversation at #ISC26 in New Orleans.

Another paper from our SPAN 1.0 studies is out in @StrokeAHA_ASA. Fasudil, a Rho-kinase (ROCK) inhibitor, improved the primary outcome (day 28 corner test) in mice. Thanks to the lead author @imai_takahiko and the Ayata Lab. Here is the link. ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/…
