Motion City Soundtrack, Slam Dunk Festival 2026
LIVE REVIEW: Oh, this has been a long time coming.
A decade since they last stepped foot on UK soil, the feeling of what this means is evidently mutual between Motion City Soundtrack and the collected voices here before them. And in making up for lost time, they remind all why their music continues to feel so seminal within this special corner of the scene.
From ‘Her Words Destroyed My Planet’ to ‘Everything Is Alright’, there is a rambunctious and appreciative energy coursing through the crowd, with fresh tracks ‘Particle Physics’ and ‘She Is Afraid’ receiving just as much love as the classics.
"Thanks for allowing us to do what we’ve done and what we hope to continue to do with our lives as human beings on planet Earth,” Justin Pierre utters as one last burst of existential connectivity takes over at the peak of closer ‘The Future Freaks Me Out’, and it really is as simple as that.
As long as the band are here to be an honest and heartfelt arm around the shoulder, especially at this extraordinary point in world history, then there will be people to offer it back to them.
That’s what humanity is all about, and for MCS to still be that soundtrack which feels like flowers forcing their way through the concrete.
