Africa’s blue economy is emerging as one of the continent’s most promising investment frontiers. Currently valued at approximately USD 300 billion and projected to reach USD 450 billion by 2030, the sector presents immense opportunities for sustainable growth, innovation, and enterprise development. Globally, the blue economy contributes an estimated USD 2.5 trillion annually to the world economy. For Kenya, the blue economy currently contributes less than 3% of GDP, the ambition is to grow its contribution to 10% in the medium term. From fisheries and aquaculture to coastal tourism, offshore renewable energy, maritime logistics, and marine biotechnology, the sector offers significant opportunities for investment, job creation, and economic transformation. These opportunities are the focus of the Unlocking Investment, Innovation & Enterprise Growth in Africa’s Blue Economy High-Level Business Forum being held in Mombasa ahead of the 11th Our Ocean Conference (OOC11), bringing together policymakers, investors, development partners and private sector leaders to explore pathways for accelerating growth across Africa’s ocean economy.

Speaking at the Business Forum on the Blue Economy during the Oceans Conference, @Trade_Kenya PS highlighted the immense potential of Africa’s blue economy as a driver of trade, innovation, job creation, and sustainable growth. She underscored the need to leverage Africa’s vast ocean and inland water resources to strengthen intra-African trade, modernize maritime infrastructure, promote sustainable marine industries, and create opportunities for the continent’s youth. As Africa advances regional integration through the AfCFTA, #BlueEconomyKE presents a strategic pathway to inclusive prosperity, resilience, and global competitiveness. #OOC11 #OurOceanKenya @MITIKenya @GovLeeKinyanjui @OurOceanOOC @PS_Betsy_Njagi @HassanAliJoho @MiBeMa_2022

Amid shifting global dynamics, Kenya is actively strengthening existing trade ties while seeking new international partners to diversify its market portfolio and reduce vulnerability to external shocks. In line with this strategy, Kenya held a Business Forum with the Republic of Slovakia in Nairobi aimed at enhancing trade and economic ties between the two countries. The forum brought together Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), business leaders, private sector players, investors, and representatives from both countries to explore opportunities for mutual cooperation in trade, investment, ICT,green energy, healthcare, agro-processing and tourism. Speaking at the forum, the Principal Secretary for Trade Regina Ombam, said Kenya’s strategic position as a commercial hub and gateway to East and Central Africa offers Slovakia a stable base for access to the region’s wider market and the African continent. The Slovakia’s Minister for Foreign and European Affairs, Juraj Blanár, said Kenya is a key partner for Slovakia in East Africa and noted that the forum will further deepen relations between the two countries. He added that the forum offers an opportunity to link businesses and enhance development cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations. Also present were the Cabinet Secretary for @Min_TourismKE @rebecca_miano Principal Secretary for @IndustryKE @DrJumaMukhwana and @KEPSA_KENYA Chairperson, @jasbedikenya

Joined H.E. President William Ruto at the Norwegian–Kenyan Business Forum, where we presented Kenya’s vast opportunities for trade, investment, and strategic partnerships. With a young and highly skilled workforce, a rapidly growing economy, and a strategic position as the gateway to Africa’s 1.4 billion consumers, Kenya remains one of the continent’s most attractive investment destinations. We invited Norwegian businesses to invest in Kenya and partner with us in driving industrialization, value addition, innovation, and job creation for our people. @MITIKenya @InvestKenya_

Kenya’s flower industry is more than an export success story, it is a source of livelihoods for hundreds of thousands of people and a major contributor to our economy. As Africa’s largest exporter of cut flowers and the leading supplier of rose cut flowers to the European Union, Kenya has earned a place among the world’s leading flower-exporting nations. It was inspiring to visit a Mester Grønn store in Oslo and see Kenyan flowers proudly displayed for consumers in Norway. Behind every bloom is the dedication of farmers, workers, and exporters whose efforts connect Kenya to global markets while creating jobs, supporting communities, and generating valuable foreign exchange for our country.

Kenya is working with partners across the world to expand markets for our products, attract investment, and promote local manufacturing and value addition. Our leadership in floriculture and our strong position in the global flower market remain critical to growing exports and reinforcing Kenya’s reputation for quality, sustainability, and innovation. To support this growth, we are expanding cold-chain logistics and strengthening market access for Kenyan producers through the Kenya–European Union Economic Partnership Agreement, creating new opportunities for farmers and agribusinesses alike. Partnerships with global industry leaders such as Yara International are equally important in advancing agricultural productivity, food security, and climate-smart farming. Together, we can unlock new opportunities for farmers, accelerate agricultural transformation, and create greater prosperity across the value chain. Held productive discussions in Oslo with Mr. Erling Ølstad of Mester Grønn and Mr. Magnus Krogh Ankarstrand of Yara International on strengthening cooperation in these areas and expanding opportunities for Kenyan producers in international markets.

We are advancing Kenya’s maritime and blue economy agenda through cooperation with Norway, exploring opportunities for investment, knowledge exchange, skills development, technology transfer and job creation across the maritime economy, including opportunities for Kenyan maritime professionals and seafarers to work with established Norwegian maritime companies. We are also exploring new shipping routes to boost trade, strengthen supply chain resilience, enhance connectivity between the ports of Mombasa and Lamu and Norwegian ports, and expand our shipbuilding capacity. Met with the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association in Oslo, Norway, where we further discussed opportunities in the blue economy and fisheries sector, as well as cooperation on green shipping, ocean sustainability and decarbonisation, including the development of green trade corridors between Kenya and Norway to support trade, skills development and the energy transition. We also welcome the commitment by Wilhelmsen Ship Management and other Norwegian shipping companies to employ 1,000 Kenyan seafarers by 2030, including 120 by the end of this year.

The Arifalab Story: Securing Africa's Digital Future Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) power Africa's economy. Yet as businesses embrace digital transformation, many face growing cyber threats without access to the sophisticated security systems available to larger corporations. Founded in Kenya, @arifalab Technologies is changing that reality. Led by Isaac Muendo (CEO), Josephat Onkoba (Product Engineer), and Elijah Kithinji (IT Security Operations), the company is developing enterprise-grade cybersecurity solutions that are accessible, affordable, and designed to meet the needs of SMEs. "We aren't just building software; we are building digital trust," says Isaac Muendo. "When businesses know their systems are secure, they can grow with confidence, strengthen customer trust, and attract investment. We are proving that world-class cybersecurity solutions can be built right here in Kenya." That vision is now earning global recognition. Out of thousands of entries worldwide, Arifalab has been selected as the only African finalist in its category at the Cyber/AI Innovation World Cup. On 24th June 2026, the team will take the global stage at BMW Welt in Munich, Germany, where they will pitch their homegrown cybersecurity innovations to international investors, industry leaders, and technology partners. As they proudly fly the Kenyan flag, Arifalab is demonstrating that Kenya is not only exporting products and services, it is exporting innovation, talent, and world-class technology solutions to the world. #MakeItKenya #ExportAgendaKE @MITIKenya @Trade_Kenya @KenyaembassyGER
