This is a complicated place to be. We have never & will never pay for ads/subscriptions on X. We've set up a BlueSky (bsky.app/profile/makespaceco…) and are hoping to slowly move over there. In solidarity, the Make Space team x [2/2]
The Arts & Ourselves zine is here! 🌟 The zine is a 36-page reflection on self-harm in its many forms. With writing, memes, and poetry - it is about our own lives, on our own terms. View the zine [and plain-text version] at: makespaceco.org/artsandourse… 1/3
ALT [Frontcover of Arts & Ourselves Zine]. An image of a lighthouse, drawn in coloured pencil on a light blue diamond, bordered by a light pink square. It is set into the middle of the page, against a larger bright blue rectangle background, with four thin white orbital lines around it going in different directions. The zine title ‘arts & ourselves: creative reflections on self-harm’ is handwritten on two cream rectangles at the top and bottom. The border, which goes all the way around the page, is made up of different brightly coloured squares. Along the left hand and bottom edge, these are filled with brightly colour quilt block patterns, alternating the friendship star and ohio star. Along the top edge and right hand edge, letters spell out "arts & ourselves", with the ampersand anchored in the top right corner.
The zine comes out of a 4-month user-led creative arts programme. Sessions were for anyone with experience of self-harm, we made things, laughed, raged, and invented new worlds. The zine captures some of that magic; it is sad, silly, tender, and joyful. 2/3
A thousand thanks to the many hands and hearts that made this possible. We hope you enjoy it! Big shoutout to Lea for putting this together with such skill and care - check out their work at zinejam.com/ 3/3
At Make Space we are having conversations about what it means to be on X. We have built a small but precious community here & we do not want to lose touch, so for now, we are staying. [1/2]

What does it mean to build solidarity and care among those of us with lived experience?
