has the James Bond series ever tried to properly grapple with the fact that Bond is less of a spy or even really a hero and is pretty evidently a hatchet man
The "license to kill" is the darker side of the male fantasy Bond represents. That he's a man who has class and status while also being given free rein to do brutal violence when it suits him.
I felt insane reading the comments acting like this has rarely been touched on. Bond being an attack dog for British intelligence is the whole premise of the series and every entry in the last 30 years has at least jokingly prodded at that.
