I've been at my company 17 months & am hiring someone for the 1st time here. His background check flagged a DUI from 4 yrs ago. Applicant reached out to me before I knew about it & offered to have an open discussion about what happened & how far he has come since. I said that

Forward with hiring him. In the meantime prepared all my points in anticipation of a kickback about hiring him. 2 days later the VP relayed to me, through our recruiter that he was okay with moving forward with the hire. I'd like to eliminate background checks completely, but

This. Right. Here!
Sentences- Capped at 20 years Probation- Capped at 3 years Parole- Capped at 5 years Registry- Abolished Boxes for Employment, Housing and Education- Abolished Power back to Judges not DA’s What a change this would make to our Criminal Legal System

Telling registrants that you want them to be law abiding, productive members of the community while simultaneously making them & their families targets of vigilantes, making it impossible to get a job, and making them homeless isn't just dishonest & dumb, it's counter-productive.

If you believe in safer communities..the absolute worst thing you could do is make it impossible for people to return from incarceration with a safe place to live, a chance at employment, or being welcome in their community Generating radical desperation is no recipe for safety

If you are living productively in the community, crime free after serving out your sentence for ANY type of crime for 7 years or more, in spite of the stigma, discrimination & barriers placed in front of you - you are AWESOME. YOU deserve a fair chance, FULL STOP. #CleanSlate

Sad that they are still "cherry picking" who is eligible and who is not based on the type of crime rather than the person. Criminal records are lifetime punishments for the person, their families and their descendants.....forever. wp.me/paQK0g-3V0t via ctmirror

Carve-outs to expungements are purely political not based on social science or how real lives are lived. If someone has lived offense free for a number of years, they have proven themselves REGARDLESS of their crime.
