#HaveYouSeen the monument located near the lighthouse dedicated in the memory of Captain Sinclair Baker?
It honours a sad story - Captain Baker, together with other locals, perished in St. Margaret's Bay on the Ruby L. while towing the ship Grace Hanikson in for repairs.
During a severe winter storm (around 1605-9) one of Champlain’s ships in command of Simon Imbert took refuge here and thereafter the river bore his name. Following the French Expulsion of 1755 the English settled the land and then call the river Bear – a corruption of Imbert.
Son nom apparaît avec d’autres signatures sur la lettre rédigée par ces braves personnes qui avaient survécu la Déportation, signé le 31 juillet 1756, racontant comment ils s’étaient emparés du navire et comment ils s’étaient échappé des anglais.

Among the many surprises we see when we look closely at the lives of our Acadian ancestors who lived in the region of Port Royal prior to the Deportation is the advanced age attained by many.
