Canada’s Jewish federations are demanding the government further suppress our rights and Mark Carney’s genocide enabling “antisemitism” speech has put a fascist wind at their sails. Friday, Canada’s Jewish federations and their official advocacy agent, Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, sent a letter to the prime minister demanding more repression. In “Joint Letter Responding to the Prime Minister's Speech on Antisemitism” they state explicitly that they consider opposition to genocide, apartheid and Israeli killing “antisemitism”. Signed by the heads of the Toronto, Montreal, Winnipeg, London, Windsor, Atlantic, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver federations, as well as B’nai Brith, CIJA, Hillel Ontario and Honest Reporting Canada, the letter states: “Antisemitism in Canada is being driven in significant part by anti-Israel and antizionist hatred. Too often, extremists hide behind the language of ‘criticizing Israel,’ using it as cover for conduct that would never be tolerated against any other community. Canada’s foreign policy impacts domestic safety. Disproportionate condemnation of Israel confers social license to antizionist extremists in Canada who are targeting Jewish Canadians. Jewish Canadians have a strong connection to Israel, their ancestral and spiritual homeland. Demonizing or targeting them because of that connection is unacceptable.” The letter calls the upcoming Canadian Museum of Human Rights exhibit “Palestine Uprooted: Nakba Past and Present” and the Canada Revenue Agency applying its rules to Jewish charities “government funded hate”. It notes, “End government-funded hate. The federal government must review programs across all departments and agencies to ensure public funds do not support organizations or initiatives that promote hatred against the Jewish community. This must include addressing the weaponization of national institutions, including the Canada Revenue Agency and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.” Alongside their push to drive Palestinian history from official public life, the letter calls for a national policing and political crackdown on opposition to genocide. It demands “a consistent national approach to law enforcement, prosecution, sentencing, and removal. The federal government should urgently convene provincial and territorial attorneys general, along with law enforcement agencies, to establish clear principles, guidelines, and action plans so that those who break the law are held accountable.” As part of their suppressive push, the letter calls for “bail reform” to keep people locked up and for the intelligence agencies to explicitly target “antizionism”. It notes, “Canada must ensure that terrorist organizations, their proxies, and their adherents cannot operate here. This requires action against the promotion, recruitment, and financing of terrorism, as well as the radicalization that fuels violence. The government should also advance further bail reform that reflects new hate-crime laws and direct CSIS and the RCMP to treat antizionism as a serious driver of extremism, as they already do for Islamist extremism.” Despite a new poll confirming public hostility towards Israel, there’s almost no political institution or politician willing to challenge the Zionists’ antisemitism frenzy. Even when Mark Carney stands next to an Israeli flag to speechify to an audience of “Israel lovers” about “antisemitism”, no Canadian politician or left institution calls out his racist genocide promotion. As such, Canada’s Jewish federations and their allies have a free hand to push ever more aggressively against our Charter right to oppose support for genocide. If we don’t defang these organizations, they will eliminate our rights.

That image is part of why people accepted what came next. It has only recently been confirmed that each of those trucks held one coffin. It was staged. A research group of Italian doctors is compiling data showing that countries with the highest vaccination rates are also seeing the highest all-cause mortality rates. Nurses and medical staff are now openly saying that elderly patients were being classified as COVID regardless of their actual diagnosis, because hospitals received five times the reimbursement for a COVID admission. The people dying were elderly, already carrying multiple conditions, and the act of hospitalizing them was itself part of what killed them. Scientists call that a syndemic. Not a pandemic. The difference matters. Italy was the image used to frighten the world into compliance. I am still finding out what was actually happening here.

Chrystia Freeland was recently challenged for supporting genocide at an event hosted by a Jewish supremacist group held in a Zionist community centre. After our Capitalism Can’t be Fixed conference concluded Sunday, a few participants interrupted Freeland’s speech. In Toronto from BC, one protestor labelled the former foreign affairs minister and deputy prime minister a “Zionist Nazi dog.” The disruption has gone viral on multiple social media platforms. Al Jazeera and other international media have reported on it. Freeland is deeply anti-Palestinian. In the first year of slaughter in Gaza she attended multiple genocide rallies. As Israeli officials ramped up their genocidal rhetoric, Freeland declared that “Canada stands with Israel”. After the International Criminal Court announced it would seek arrest warrants for Israel’s prime minister and defence minister as well as Hamas leaders in late 2024, Freeland said it was “entirely inappropriate to equate the terrorist leaders of a terrorist organization [Hamas] with the democratically elected leaders of a democracy [Israel].” When I asked Freeland a year into the slaughter if she condemned Israel’s killing of 14,000 Palestinian children she declined to respond. During her three years as foreign affairs minister Freeland promoted the genocidal, apartheid state. Canada’s voting record at the United Nations during that time was deeply anti-Palestinian. In December 2017, for instance, Canada sided with the US, Israel and some tiny Pacific island states in opposing a UN resolution supporting Palestinian statehood that was backed by 176 nations. Freeland promoted the expansion of the Canada Israel free trade agreement and largely ignored Israeli violence against Palestinians. But she often expressed outrage when Israelis occupying Palestinian lands were harmed. In December 2018 Freeland tweeted, “horrified by the shooting in the West Bank in which eight people — including a Canadian and his wife — were injured.” In fall 2018 Freeland visited Israel. During an Israel Council on Foreign Relations gathering she declared, “Canada’s commitment to Israel’s security is unwavering and ironclad.” At the November 2018 event alongside Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Freeland added that if Canada won a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council in 2020 it would act as an “asset for Israel.” In an embarrassingly sycophantic speech that should be read in full, Freeland added that “the world also needs more Israel.” The host of Freeland’s speech in Toronto was Canadaland. Its founder and head Jesse Brown recently spoke at the “World Symposium Against Antizionism: Confronting the Third Era of Jew-Hatred” with open racists Ben Shapiro and Gaad Saad. I wrote critically about Brown’s apartheid promotion a decade ago but before the genocide in Gaza he was generally considered a liberal media critic. Over the past three years Brown and Canadaland have become ever more aggressive shills for Israel’s horrors. The Canadaland event took place at the Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre (MNJCC). It was sponsored by United Jewish Appeal (UJA) Toronto, which runs the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs. MNJCC operates an “IsraelConnection” program and promotes UJA Toronto’s annual Walk for Israel. In a sign of its commitment to Jewish supremacist colonialism, the daycare and preschool at the MNJCC has Israeli flags on the wall and describes “Israel as a Source and Resource”. Those who promote or justify genocide committed by an apartheid state must be challenged and embarrassed. This is necessary to end Canadian complicity in crimes against humanity.
