The clever legal trick is that Forti will remain subject to the "life sentence" even while using probation. He will not be released from prison because he was acquitted, but he will be released from prison who, however, benefits from a special prison regime. So at his home.

In Italy people only hear his version of the story so they believe his lies. That's why Italian politicians asked the transfer, because Forti is a hero and Miami Dade police are depicted as corrupt.

He will be free immediately as you can read from this article. In Italy life sentence is illegal and murderers get out of jail after only 15 years on average. Moreover, Forti is a hero in Italy against the "evil corrupted" Miami police who fabricated false evidence against him.
