Someone needs to tell the owner of Island Magic that turmeric didn't arrive a century ago. It was brought here by the First Fijians 3000 years ago. The reason he has a business is because Fijian turmeric is superior to Indian turmeric (5% curcumin vs 2-3% in Indian turmeric)
I first heard about a new kava cultivar on Rabi in 2018. My uncle told me he heard about it from relatives from Karoko & Valesavu. They said it was from Vanuatu (likely, but no evidence yet for this). Fiji's first non-noble kava has just been documented mdpi.com/2077-0472/15/5/478
