As the U.S.A. approaches 250, faithful Christians seem to have various ways of thinking and processing this benchmark. It's been good to reflect on the mosaic of perspectives. Holy Spirit keeps bringing 2 words to my mind & heart: Gratitude & Stewardship.
Gratitude: I'm privileged far beyond what I deserve and get to travel domestically and internationally. This year alone I'll be in 6 countries. And just like we see in the news and in literature, people far and wide wish they could have the freedom, liberty, resource and opportunity that makes this place, far from perfect, but certainly unique. Jesus, and Scripture, commands and urges me to give thanks to God for my blessings. I'm blessed beyond measure and far beyond what I deserve, and I thank God for the opportunity to have such abundant liberty.
Stewardship: Luke 12:48 says, "From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded..." The parable of the talents in Matthew 25 also paints a compelling picture of Gospel stewardship and accountability. With the abundance God has given Katie and me (in opportunity, material, relationships, mindset, etc.) I'm compelled by the Holy Spirit to use my freedom for the Gospel...making His Kingdom known and living out the way of Jesus...especially to those who don't know Jesus or who may have far less resource or who suffer greatly. What do we do with our abundant freedom and liberty? Be generous. Gracious. Hospitable. Kind, good & just. Rooted in the spine of truth...clothed in compassion. May I...may we...be found faithful with our extravagant abundance...may we steward well for His Kingdom & glory.
