*Note* Avoid planting outdoors if you don't reside in USDA zones 10-1
ALT - Provide well-draining, loose and loamy soil if outside but more porous soil if inside.
- Place inside where it is warm and receives indirect light or outside where afternoon shade will protect from scorching.
- Only need to water when the soil dries out completely
- Add fertilizer once a month if indoors.
#HappyNationalPoinsettiaDay! “Red flowers often represent deep love and celebrations,” which reflects this winter season of giving, as we gather with families and friends. #Celebrate by bringing home your own selection. They love to be purchased in pairs or families!😉
ALT This special day honors Joel Roberts Poinsett and Paul Ecke Jr., key figures in the evolution of the Poinsettia as a modern holiday plant. Joel Roberts Poinsett was responsible for sending clippings of poinsettias to the U.S. from Mexico for cultivation in the 19th century, while Paul Ecke Jr. founded the modern poinsettia industry. National Poinsettia Day was established in 2002 to recognize the death of Joel Roberts Poinsett, for whom the plant was named. The Poinsettia was originally “associated with Christmas Eve celebrations in Mexico” and soon became a traditional plant in the U.S. during the winter holidays due to its growth in popularity.
Cinnamon-colored #Poinsettias are a perfect twist to the #fall festivities if you are looking for an eclectic color pop in your home! They add that subtle #spice to keep things exciting while still playing it cool during the harvest season. Find at your favorite garden centers!
#Poinsettias are almost on the move to stores! Be on the lookout for seas of red and white, and even some novelty colors at your favorite #garden retailer near you. Make sure to get your #holidays decorated with these icons before November ends! (image for care)
ALT Here are some important care tips for when you bring your Poinsettias home:
The best place to keep your Poinsettias is indoors where they still receive bright indirect light from a window.
Make sure to keep your plant in a well draining pot so the water doesn't sit. If you like the pretty colored hats that they ship in, then you should slide them out during watering.
Once they are finished draining, you can reinsert the plant back into the hat to keep that pretty appearance without waterlogging the poinsettia or damaging the foil.
Water whenever the top soil is dry to the touch.
