For the relationship between coach and athlete or team to work there must be space between them. It’s like the gap in a spark plug. Too close or too wide and there’s no spark. The spark is what makes the relationship effective and sustainable. So get the gap right

The right balance between challenging and supporting an athlete or team is less about a coach’s data based decisions than judgement based. You can be taught the data based in the classroom. You can only learn the judgement based through experience.
