this morning’s @berrycollege admissions event was more eventful than anticipated. in addition to talking to some students, i had the chance to have a nice chat with one of my favorite YouTubers, Destin Sandin of @smartereveryday, who was visiting campus with his daughter.

once, when i was a kid, and sick from some childhood malady, he bought me that red book of Sherlock Holmes stories and ignited my love of reading. he taught me to love science fiction, particularly Star Trek, and music, particularly folk music. 3/n

he was mostly quiet and unassuming, but he cared about people and taught me that this is the way to be. and when he came to visit he always sat in that same chair. i'm going to miss all of that. n/n

for my 52nd birthday i planned a 5.2 mile walk. the day got away from me and i didn’t leave myself enough daylight, so i retconned it into 5.2K. it’s not really dark yet, but i got it done before it rained. now i’m going to buy myself a birthday cake.

got in 18 holes of disc golf with these guys and then, after a tasty lunch from Cookout, we submitted our book chapter. it was a good day, even if it likely was the last time we’ll all be in the same place at the same time.
