ALT Statistical Aspects of Competition course map which connects the main topics/ideas I cover in the course, including probability, programming/software engineering, Bayesian Thinking/Decision Analysis, Simulation and Statistical Computing, Modeling Framework, Rank-Based & Kernel Methods, Paired Comparisons, Spatio-Temporal Visualization, and Statistics and Data Science Research. The course has pre-reqs of intro stats (in R), computer programming (in Java), a modeling course, and a data science course. The students do two projects throughout the course. First, programming the game of Qwixx and their own strategy to win, which is then run in a simulation to compare all pairs of strategies and determine which is the best. These pairwise Bernoulli strength parameters are used in subsequent simulation to explore the nature of tournament structure and seeding. They also have a final project in which they perform statistical/data science research.
