Not true. Panpsychists don't necessarily think everything is conscious. Just fundamental things.
Replying to @Philip_Goff
Parity of predictions doesn’t imply parity of explanation. Physicalism at least aims to specify conditions under which consciousness arises. Panpsychism declares it ubiquitous and thus exempts itself from explaining boundaries, unity, or onset. That asymmetry matters.

Michael Graziano is one of the top consciousness researchers. Looking forward to watching this.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Michael Graziano, a professor at @PrincetonNeuro and author of the Attention Schema Theory (AST) of consciousness. Key moments: - AI can be used as a social contagion tool and impact the mood and perception of billions of people. - The more you treat AI as human-like, the more it leaks into your interactions with other people. - AI can make predictions, but it doesn't yet have a self-model. - The Attention Schema Theory (AST) of consciousness is the only theory that can be engineered and implemented in AI systems. Some researchers are already working on it. Timestamps: Intro Consciousness to engineering AI self-model Dangers of attributed consciousness Healthy interactions with AI Experiments and studies Social contagion Future of AI Treatment of sentient AI Uploading humans to machines Attention schema and theories of consciousness Book discussion: existence Composing symphonies Writing books

“Where’s the evidence that the brain produces consciousness? There isn’t any.” “Panpsychism is the view that consciousness didn’t emerge — it’s always been there, evolving with the cosmos.” “If we understood matter more sufficiently, it might contain elements of mind within it.” “The brain generating consciousness? That’s just woo-woo with better branding.”

I interviewed Anil about AI consciousness for my Sub Stack prior to the talk. Subscribe now so you don't miss it! (Link it my bio)
Enjoying Anil Seth arguing that AI isn't conscious, and not just because of this slide on transhumanist rapture.

Sue Blackmore inverts Nagel’s “What is it like to be a bat?” - suggesting a bat (as physical object) may not have experiences, but a model of the bat might. Experience could be a property of models/simulations rather than physical systems themselves.
