I’ve had several questions about this.
Mahomes and the Chiefs capped out his 2026 contract in February to a $34.65m cap hit :
• $1.3m base salary
• $1m workout bonus
• $32.35m in dead cap from previous restructures
There will be cap relief from the scheduled $85m cap hit in 2027, but none this year.
Anytime a deal is extended out like this, its likely backloaded, which means it almost certainly freed up room at minimum to make sure the draft picks got signed.

Chiefs are adding two years to Patrick Mahomes’ contract, which will run thru his age 38 season.
When Mahomes signed his first extension in 2020, it was a 10-year, $450 million deal, or $45 million AAV.
This extension is 8 years, with $504.75 million, or $63.1 million AAV.

The new money on Patrick Mahomes’ deal is worth $239.05 million, with the total value now at $504.75 million from 2026-33, with the first four years being guaranteed at signing. All $504.75 million becomes guaranteed through contract mechanisms.
Mahomes can earn up to $522.25 through incentives and escalators. Beginning in 2027, when the new money begins, the deal averages $64M per year, setting a new NFL record for average annual value.

The play I hate being celebrated the most from non-contact practices are plays where a receiver must elevate, dive, reach out, or catch with one hand. 9 out of 10 times these are great catches compensating for bad throws, bad routes, lack of speed, or some combination.

I’m not trying to disparage anyone, it just the second bad play in a row I saw celebrated on X.
If the receiver has to slow down to adjust for the ball, leading a defender into contact in a non-contact practice, it’s underthrown. A dime would hit the receiver in stride for a TD.
