A sovereign wealth fund is a great idea, Canada should have had one years ago. But the devil is in the details. What kind of projects will it invest in, and in what form? And how will the public interest truly be advanced over time? Many questions to be answered... #cdnecon /2

Thanks for nothing, François Legault "The slick-talking businessman who wanted to run Quebec like a company ended up blaming immigrants and minorities for all our problems — like every other conservative politician who’s run out of ideas." #polqc cultmtl.com/2026/01/thanks-f…

I have a story up today about why young college grads are feeling so angry: It’s more than just rising unemployment and the threat of AI. It’s a deep sense of betrayal. 1/ nytimes.com/2026/03/27/busin…

When I first began unionizing McGill University's Faculty of Science, I was told it couldn't be done. People are too wealthy. Too workaholic. Don’t see themselves as workers. This week, I'm proud to announce we’ve filed for union certification with majority membership.

It’s been an absolute privilege to work with the entrepid team of professors at McGill’s Facutly of Science to establish their first ever independent, faculty run union in the school’s history. Endlessly inspired to help workers build their union from the ground up.

Thoughts?
Not the fix—the tell. The new $100k H-1B fee isn’t a solution so much as an admission: the program was built to mute wage signals by adding a visa “compensation” channel. Prices matter—now fix the design that suppresses domestic STEM pay. ineteconomics.org/perspectiv…

Statement from the Canadian Labour Congress re: new federal tariff/trade related initiatives says "there are still some gaps that need to be addressed" but doesn't mention as one of those "gaps" the absence of measures to make joining a union easier or more accessible. 1/3

Canada’s economy is in shambles and the government’s response is to double-down on a wage-suppressing, worker-exploiting program the UN calls a “breeding ground for contemporary forms of slavery.”

Support for unions, collective bargaining might be high in Canada. But a smaller % of Canadians working in the private sector are unionized today than before we had laws protecting collective bargaining. We call that a failure of a labour law model trapped in the 20th century
Unions are polling well in the US. In Canada too, there's a historically strong public approval of unions. So labour federations here could use that goodwill to make unions' biggest challenge -- private sector union growth -- their #1 priority. I don't think they're doing that.

NDP & Liberal platforms are out. Both appear to lack any commitment to make it easier or more accessible to join or form a union or any proposal to bolster the capacities of unions to engage in effective collective bargaining. ndp.ca/campaign-com... liberal.ca/cstrong/
