My first book, The Recursive Frontier, technically came out (from @SUNYPress) last week, but I delayed posting about until my author copies arrived so I could do an obligatory unboxing photo. It's (mostly) a multiethnic literary history of Los Angeles between the '30s and '50s.

The thing about Nancy Pelosi is that she is to her very core a hater. One of the few truly great haters in contemporary US politics. An LBJ-level hater. I have to respect this.
Purely anecdotal but driving around NC over the past month i saw a lot of small signs saying things like “TRUMP low taxes / HARRIS high taxes” and as dishonest as that may be I’m struck by Democrats’ inability to condense and simplify a message, any message, comparably.
Today I saw a billboard that said “Kamala Harris supports raising the minimum wage.” That sounds weak and selective and is barely legible while driving. Why didn’t it say “Kamala will give you a pay rise”? Early/mid-20th century political communication was much better at this!
i was so excited to interview Kim Adams and Saronik Bosu for @mid_theory’s On The Scene feature column about the return of their INCREDIBLE podcast @HighTheoryPodc1 from hiatus! read more from Kim and Saronik here:

Movie goofs you never noticed: in CASPER (1995), rock and roll icon Little Richard appears as himself as a ghost, singing the closing theme, despite the fact he would not actually pass away until 2020.
