Ateneo men’s basketball players Kieffer Alas and Sam Reyes recalled that the June 8 incident happened during a beach agility drill in Dipaculao, Aurora, where the team was training parallel to the shoreline.
In an interview with Pia Hontiveros, the two said the first wave was already taller than some of the players in the open sea. They later noticed the water level rising from thigh-deep to chest-deep after the first wave passed.
The incident resulted in the tragic deaths of players Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili.
