Does Cannabis stay in your body for 30 days?
Anytime that you consume a drug, whether it's cannabis or Advil, your body is going to undergo a natural process called metabolism where it breaks that substance down into other chemicals that we call metabolites. And this happens with cannabis as well. When you first smoke up, the initial high that you're going to feel is because of the chemical called delta-9-THC. This is the main psychoactive component of cannabis, and it's produced when you heat up cannabis, primarily by burning it. That's where the beginning of the high comes, but it only lasts in your blood for about an hour, give or take. So after that, your body has converted delta-9-THC into a different chemical, another metabolite, called 11-hydroxy-THC. 11-hydroxy-THC, like delta-9-THC, is a psychoactive substance, meaning it affects your state of mind. However, that only sticks around in your blood for another four and a half hours. That's where the second half of the high comes from. After this, your metabolism is going to break down the 11-hydroxy-THC even farther into a chemical called 11-nor-9-carboxy-Delta-9-THC. That is, of course, a very long name, but importantly, this chemical is not psychoactive, meaning it doesn't affect your mental state whatsoever. This is why you don't feel high for a month when you smoke a joint.
