I genuinely love Kaiser and the Melody love confession subplot, I want him to be genuine but I’m down for anything, just the complete ???-ness of it is so beautiful. And I love a character whose self-perception is absurdly off, this makes me burst out laughing every time

I love how Bono and Hinrigh talk about the Phantom Troupe like they're an idol group in jp, on a page where Togashi references the idol group he likes too. Bono asks who Hinrigh's oshi is and he replies with hako (lit. box), the way to say you stan the whole group over any member

Every once in a while I remember this interview snippet where Togashi says his initial plan was to have Gon fail the exam and a timeskip after. So hard to even imagine, Gon's story is so specific to his age for me and the full journey with Killua is so important

I’m a pretty alright japanese speaker (I have JLPT N2), I have read all of HxH in jp and let me tell you the succession war is a fucking nightmare to decipher, a chapter took me more than an hour on average, I probably would’ve given up without furigana lol

It’s very worth it though and I will do it again, there’s a lot of nuance that inevitably gets lost in translation and it’s fun and rewarding overall. I also love Togashi’s voice as a writer in jp, it’s very distinct and he obviously cares a lot about phrasing and word choice

Honestly the most similar manga reading experience to HxH I've had so far is Nana. The characterization, the highly character-driven storytelling, the gorgeous panelling and expressions, the lowkey cautionary tale involving the MC, they're sisters to me
