"We banned kids from social media and forced everyone else to give the government their ID if they wanted to use social media and now no one criticizes the government's policies." Huh.
For anyone wondering, it’s only been a positive thing in Aus. No one even talks about it anymore which can only mean the kids don’t care. The ones desperate for it will find workarounds, but the majority have found better things to do with their spare time.

At 17, you can legally drive, get a pilot's license, join the military, work full-time, donate blood, and (by the end of this year) vote in elections. But, you won't be allowed to use YouTube past 8pm or exceed your monthly scroll quota on TikTok. Horrible infantilism.
🚨 SUMMARY: The UK's social media ban for children from early 2027: - "User-to-user" apps where people create, share and interact with content (e.g. TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, X, Facebook) will be banned for under-16s - WhatsApp, Signal and YouTube Kids will be exempt - Under-16s will also be banned from livestreaming, messaging strangers on gaming apps like Discord and using disappearing messages - 16 and 17 year olds will face nightly social media curfews and limits on infinite scrolling with more details next month - AI "romantic companion" chatbots will be banned for under-18s - Adults can still access social media through age checks like facial recognition, digital IDs, passports and credit cards

In all seriousness, the guy wrote four other supernatural Christmas books and the most notable adaptation of any of them was a silent film in 1914.

Interesting to see the ambiguity (which works just as well in English) between the traditionalist - one who hands over what was given to them; and the traitor - one who hands over what was given to them.

Interesting - 'traitor' was originally a specifically theological term, meaning one who handed over ('traditores') their copies of the scriptures or gave up fellow believers during the persecutions of Christians under Diocletian.

Memories (1995). The bit where he reaches out to touch his baby in the projected video and it leaves a gaping black void in the baby’s head feels bit heavy handed

A lot of people in the quotes showing that they got no idea that the average modern parent is (rightly or wrongly) very paranoid about giving their kid any unsupervised time. Kids are gaming or scrolling cause that's literally the only thing without parental or teacher authority
What are children actually supposed to do? Like they have nowhere to go but home, everywhere costs too much money and they have no experience socially navigating without social media. This just isolates abused, bullied and minority children.

BREAKING: Iran says the US has agreed to pay $300 billion in reconstruction funds directly to Iran as part of the deal Pakistan announced, alongside the release of $24 billion in frozen funds with $12 billion released before negotiations even start, per Mehr News. This directly contradicts Trump's & Vance's claim that no funds will be transferred to Iran at all. If Trump denies this is true, there never was a deal. If Trump confirms, the US has fully capitulated to Iran's demands.

Just tell them no. Force Westminster to ban smartphones.
To clear up any confusion: There are TWO bans on under 16's access to social media in the UK. The first is at the app level and this comes into play next year. It will require selected social media apps to prompt for age verification when accessing them. The second more insidious one is happening much sooner. This one is the 'nudity detection' feature and this one operates on device level. It will require every adult to show a form of ID in order to operate their phones and tablets without restrictions/monitoring. The voluntary deadlines to tech companies to implement this is around early September this year. If Apple, Google and others don’t implement device-level monitoring by then, the government has said it will bring forward legislation to make it mandatory. People saying "Just use a VPN!" are not understanding how this works.

French President Macron on social media ban under 15: It plunges them into loneliness. It makes them suffer. They are not ready for it. It disturbs their personal, sensory, cognitive development. Australia passed a law before us, already in force. The UK is joining us — the Prime Minister announced it this morning. Canada is joining.
