This reminds me of when I was just starting out in long distance running. I completed my first 10 mile run, and it was a grueling experience. After the run, over brunch, I asked my (far more experienced) running buddies, "Does it ever get easier?"
After a moment of quiet, one by one, they each burst into uncontrollable laughter. Finally one of them recovers from his laughing fit long enough to tell me: "No, man. It never gets easier. You just run farther and faster."
