Hearing feedback of more ‘break-ins’ in Newport’s City Centre (unconfirmed). Newport traders / business owners rightly frustrated. Newport Council and Gwent Police must get on top of this.

(1/3) My newspaper column tomorrow in the South Wales Argus. I’ve republished an old article from 1996 which highlighted the moment the former Caerleon Campus gained its ‘University Status’. 20 years later the campus was shut down. Shocking. @matthewevansnpt @Fouweather76637

(2/3) Buy a copy of the South Wales Argus tomorrow. 📰 Some newspapers are also available on Sundays whilst stocks last - at all good retailers and supermarkets. Just £1.05 a copy. You can also subscribe online for just £15 a year (a lot cheaper). Well worth the money. 🗞️

So 36 extra politicians for one more scrutiny committee? 🤷🏻‍♂️
🚨Senedd has announced its plans for Committees. On face value we will have one more Committee than in the previous Senedd. It means the return of very broad areas for oversight such as the Committee for Culture, Communication, Welsh language and Sports... 1/4

(1/2) Newport Labour politicians criticised for campaigning on ‘traffic congestion’. 👇🏻 Jayne Bryant and Labour’s council leader Dimitri Batrouni both seemingly questioned Plaid Cymru’s future stance on tackling traffic congestion. @matthewevansnpt @Fouweather76637 @natasghar

Plaid’s answer to the “log jam” that is the M4 around Newport is to have another consultation. So much for doing things differently. You don’t need to consult again the solution is there it’s called the M4 relief road. Just crack on and get it built!

More road surface damage highlighted in Newport this morning. This time along Cardiff Road near the Mon Bank Retail Park / Lidl. Yesterday, I highlighted more potholes near Asda in Duffryn. This is worst I’ve seen in years. Right across the city.

My second most read blog ever. A lot of anger and frustration over Newport’s City Centre. Yes, there are a lot of positives and I acknowledged them in my blog. But my god, there needs to be strong action to sort out the anti-social behaviour seen in the City Centre recently.
(1/2) BLOGPOST: Newport City Centre | The Anti-Social Behaviour must end. Over 200,000 views on this blog inside 12 hours of publication. A hot issue with the public. @matthewevansnpt @Fouweather76637 @natasghar @southwalesargus @WalesOnline LINK: facebook.com/share/p/1EVKAr7…

I partly blame excessive parking charges for the decline of our High Streets. Obviously, it’s not the sole reason, but is a big factor. Look at Cwmbran. 3,000 free parking spaces and the town centre is literally packed with shoppers - even on Sundays. @WalesOnline
(1/2) My newspaper column from last weekend in the South Wales Argus 👇🏻 Should Newport Council bring back free parking? Even if just on Sundays? Not just a rant, but an analytical break-down on costs vs revenue. @matthewevansnpt @Fouweather76637 LINK: southwalesargus.co.uk/news/2…

(1/2) How local council elections in Wales could be delayed until 2028. Yes, highly speculative. However! Read my views on potential changes to a STV system on my blogging page - The Pointy Finger. @matthewevansnpt @DeansOfCardiff @Fouweather76637 @TheJakeEnea @WalesOnline

ON THIS DAY - 38 years ago! On 8 Jun 1988 Rupert Murdoch and I announced the launch of satellite TV in the UK. Murdoch would arrange the Sky satellite transmissions and the programme content; Amstrad would make the dishes and receivers to pick up the programmes.
