Belfast after the 'beheading', by Aris Roussinos (@arisroussinos) The nightmare scenario for Sinn Féin would have been Catholics rioting against immigrants. That did not happen: instead, working-class Catholics merely turned out to watch their Protestant neighbours riot with an anthropological detachment newly devoid of open contempt. I have never until now heard working-class Catholics, from devoutly Republican areas, talking about the coming together of the ‘Orange and the Green’ with anything other than derision. At Ardoyne Roundabout, one of North Belfast’s most volatile sectarian interface areas, protestors from both communities shook hands and declared amity in scenes that were genuinely startling. I think a lot of people will find, unless they are already eating a ketogenic diet and working out, that 72 hours isn’t enough to gain that mental clarity and energy. Five days almost surely will though.
Dana White says a 72-hour water fast (done a couple times a year) completely changed how he feels. On Adin Ross, he described it as giving insane mental clarity and making you feel incredible. He sticks strictly to water zero-calorie electrolytes the whole time and calls it one of the most beneficial things he’s ever done for himself. 48–72 hour water fasting has been shown in studies to significantly increase autophagy (cellular repair and cleanup), boost growth hormone levels, improve insulin sensitivity, and reduce systemic inflammation. It also enhances metabolic flexibility, helping the body burn fat more efficiently. Have you ever tried a multi-day water fast? Would you consider doing a 72-hour one?

Every day the thought of living in Ireland creeps up on me. Seeing homes there burning fills my nerves with dread and anger. It’s not a lark.

The Times found two women who will make accusations against Plantar, uses them to convince a third, a known conservative, to join them. Then allowed the Plantar campaign to entirely reshape the story in such a way that she will receive endless abuse on social media.

Under Biden, I assisted many migrants fleeing persecution. Yet these were a small share from a torrent of fraudulent asylum seekers Now, migrants face worse ICE abuse. @compactmag, I urge Dems to learn from mistakes for the good of workers & migrants compactmag.com/article/my-ti…

Hard wisdom is realizing that to defend the greatness of the late 1990s Utah Jazz, I would eventually have to defend the 1990s Chicago Bulls.

If there is an ethnic conspiracy in America it’s how much influence these people-my people- have over it.
Here are all the counties that are >10% Irish and >10% Italian. Most of these counties are in New England and the mid-Atlantic states.

Hey, I wanted to share and rattle the digital tin cup for Ryan, a young man my daughter met in pre-school, and his mom Jen, who is a real force in our community advocating for real educational options for kids with special needs. Ryan has finally found a school where he can flourish but his family needs help making up the gap. I’d be grateful if you threw in a little. And so of course would Ryan’s family. gofundme.com/f/help-me-conti…

That the work produced by AI is comprehensible to humans does not mean a machine “understands” it. These guys who want to dunk on theology should spend more time with basic computer science.
Disappointing to see this. We need curious and humble exploration of the complex Qs around ai understanding and consciousness, not overconfident sweeping proclamations. And some of these claims are blatantly false. AIs clearly do understand the work they produce.

BTW, notice the announcer goes with conventional wisdom (“Lakers are going to roll through Utah”). USA Today picked Lakers in 5. Utah smoked them in 4. Malone was killing Shaq one on one. This very Old Utah team ran these youngsters to death. Their conditioning and altitude advantage was insane.
For no particular reason, this is how the Jazz looked against Shaq, Kobe and the Lakers the round before this

Good example of how they used UCLA style offense (you’ll see four lined above the key)
Now here is Utah vs. the Lakers in Game 1 of 1998. That’s the thing about ball you don’t play every team the same. Only bozos think every game has to be played fast. Adjustments are made every quarter, every game & every series based on what gives you the best chance to win.

I really can’t recommend more going deep on Jackson’s Triangle and Sloan’s “Flex Offense.” 90s basketball was vicious in the key. These two offenses are like watching expert lock pickers at work. They run and run through the options until they pry open the defense. The widely shared footage from G6 1998 is slightly slowed, and it’s from the final confrontation after two of the most grueling seasons those veteran teams ever played. Jazz swept the Kobe-Shaw Lakers. the Bulls barely survived the Reggie Miller led Pacers.

The 90s Jazz were dangerous on the break but they absolutely were a machine-like half court offense. Stockton took you to the wing every time and they began a long series of UCLA cuts, or a split post scheme, each could switch to pick and roll depending on what the defense gave. This was Sloan’s Flex offense.
Check out how the Utah Jazz played when they didn’t play the Chicago Bulls Bulls liked to slow the pace down on both ends as Jordan and the Bulls were built for half court play Like Kobe said today’s basketball is all accidental

Still re-reading the encyclical. Dont have fully developed impression yet. First impression, I wanted more on AI challenges, and less recapitulation of previous social teaching. Fun that positive example of tech in salvation history was building a wall.
