so today I'm generating some dummy multi-study data to do a dry-run of some random effects meta-analysis code and I've got to say words from Lorem Ipsem text of 5 or more letters make for excellent fake study nicknames.
I once met Sean Lock in a sandwich shop in the old Kings Cross station. He was coming in and I was just leaving, both with wheely suitcases. The shop was very narrow, so the suitcases collided. I said "sorry, Sean" as though I'd known him for ages. He was very nice about it. RIP.

I don't usually share celebrity anecdotes (to be fair this is probably the only one I have) but there was something rather sweet about this one with bleary-eyed me using his first name without thinking and him being very nice about it that it's stayed with me all these years.

I imagine this went downhill pretty fast from the second half of 2001 onwards.
Call me a soppy old sentimentalist but there's something quite heartwarming about uncovering a mains socket that's been hidden behind a wardrobe for 20 years and then plugging something into it and seeing that it still works.
