Publishing has an A.I. problem with cover art and promotions.
The A.I. design trope is a problem when it comes to publishing and promotions. Publishers and authors have ditched skilled artists and designers for A.I. generated slop. Typing a prompt to create another prompt that leads to artificially generated images is not a skill. Nor does it look good, and it's lazy by trying to save money. There's always telltale artifacting in these generated images, usually in text or the lack of any minute detail, and it looks atrocious and unreal.
More publishers and authors are adopting the use of A.I., probably to save movey or maybe they think they can do better than a skilled professional who spent many years learning their craft, that they can create in minutes, something that takes a skilled human many hours to create. But the results speak for themselves. A.I. generated images all look the same, so the final publication doesn't look unique at all. Granted that there are a lot of bad artists out there, but at least they tried and did their best. A.I. is just a mess of stolen and scraped images mushed together.
Any publisher who uses A.I. and doesn't tell the author should be fired and they deserve to fail. Same with an author who uses A.I. to write or help white a book. Both are lying which makes them dishonest.
I will no longer support a publisher or any author that uses A.I. This includes any work or promotion. For me, it stops now. If you want to be lazy and produce awful covers and promotional ads/material, then carry on. But I won't support you in any way, whether purchases, working for you, or promoting you and/or the author. You don't deserve it.
I know this will be unpopular for those who think A.I. is ok. But in the creative industries, it's not. And you will eventually suffer for it and will probably crawl back to the designers you shunned for your own greed, once the A.I. trend dies down.
If you're pro A.I., I don't want to hear your justifications. I've heard them all. There's nothing you can say to change my opinion, so don't even try. I'm not interested.
