A person may still pray, still attend church, still observe religious customs, yet faith becomes confined to certain moments rather than shaping the whole of life.

The greatest danger of secularism is not that it openly rejects God. Its greater danger is that it allows us to keep religion while quietly removing God from daily life.

Everyone respects your work against Islam. But you avoid the protestant belief of the Bible being a self-authenticating book. You don't call out JP for literally bringing on a Muslim apologist to critique @Alex_Ortodoxie, which he failed bad at doing. You avoid contending with Jay's critiques, you dont call out Dwood for lying nor Ruslan business church BS. And for what money or something else? But We're all friends here, right guys? Christianity is a justified pluralist position, right guys!?

And another one, here is @Michael__Garten on Origen’s stance re praying to departed saints:
@Alex_Ortodoxie great answer re exactly what the issue is w/Origen on not offering the highest kind of prayer to the Son. But Origen does show that Christians could conceive of addressing a category of requests to human patrons. And yes, this Origen quote requires some dancing around in order to deny it is talking about prayer to the departed. Plus, Origen clearly teaches angels and the spirits of righteous men are with Christians where they pray. This is one of the issues with how @JPuncut handled the evidence. He pointed to times when requests were made to saints or angels that appeared to someone and said this is not the same as prayer in the sense of a request to someone in heaven. But Origen and other early Christians believed angels and the spirits of righteous men made perfect were present in the Church gathering as Saint Paul teaches in Hebrews 12. It’s hard to sustain the reply about in heaven vs visible once we acknowledge the cloud of witnesses surrounds us

my review of this...it was really bad. @PageauJonathan did fantastic. He is far more capable than he gives himself credit for. A few missed areas he could have hammered to make a point, but broadly very good Gavin just basically refused to respond meaningfully.
On Salvation and evangelism. Well said @pageaujonathan

Why do these people think that Jay Dyer the only person that can debate this topic? There are people like @Alex_Ortodoxie who will debate David lol.

Average catechumen spends a year in study to learn basics. He wouldn't be able to even debate me on this issue convincingly.

First of all, @JPuncut used Origen as affirmative evidence. Not me. I used Origen as rebuttal evidence. Second, the excerpt I cited (attached) shows Origen differentiating between different kinds of prayer. I even said that in the debate. Origen is fine with offering lower kinds of prayer to humans. His error is in offering the highest kind of prayer to the Father, only, and not the Son. Third, my argument that Origen is referring to departed saints is absolutely a plausible reading. If @JPuncut went to an actual Christian scholar like @Acolyte83349490, he would have known this passage can reasonably be understood to refer to offering lesser kinds of prayer to departed saints (also attached). In sum, instead of going to a Christian scholar, @JPuncut went to @MMetaphysician, a Muslim apologist, just to try and get points on the board against Orthodox Christians. I’m telling you, these people HATE Orthodox Christians. Yo @RuslanKD and @Acts17David come pick up your boy, he’s cooked.
So @maulertc and @JPuncut brought on Jake the Muslim to help them against @Alex_Ortodoxie @JayDyer and Orthodoxy as a whole. but Jake was just stressing that any Trinitarian using Origen (Just as JP did) to support their position is stupid, cause he wasn’t an Orthodox Trinitarian. Evangelicals resorting to platforming and teaming up with Muslims😭 you CANNOT make this up.

Unblock me @Acts17David it’s time to get this show on the road
I like this idea - since I retired from debating tards - if David Wood can do a couple debates with Orthodox and not get demolished (which he will) - then I’ll consider it. Until then, he’s in the obvious tard bin.

I’m afraid you’re missing the point. Jonathan understands. Ortlund doesn’t want to defend his own church and practice. He admitted this. He tries to move away from it as fast as possible. He tried to obfuscate as much as he could because he doesn’t want Protestants who don’t believe in his nondenominational modern pop up version of reformed theology to be brought up and lose Protestant followers that disagree. Here’s an example. Ortlund tries to dismiss his old blog post like Jonathan was unfair for bringing it up and then admits that what was read by Pageau, he still thinks is true. (He just wanted to check it more) He doesn’t want people to hear it or the other controversial things that go on at his church. He says “I’m not trying to make people Calvinist”. Ok, Then what church is he inviting people to? Not Orthodoxy or your Catholicism. Keep your eyes open.

@Acts17David still happy to talk about the Biblical and Apostolic practice of venerating holy images. Since this is an area I have devoted some time to, you will find what I have to say very interesting.
Jay Dyer blocked me, but make sure he sees this debate challenge on Eastern Orthodox icon veneration.
