In 2015, we had a chance to sit down with former Gov. George Nigh at the OK. History Center. I can't find the audio from that conversation, but he told us a lively story of "Oklahoma" becoming our state song. This article captures it well. RIP Governor. okhistory.org/learn/musical4

As the recently retired superintendent of Bixby Public Schools, I can attest that eliminating every administrative position in the district would not adequately fund Supt Walters' mandate, which could cost upwards of $5 million annually in Bixby alone.
