My Vo2max when I ran a 4:01 mile was 67 My Vo2max when I ran 4:05 a few years later: 76 Performance is what matters. Looking at one number in isolation or chasing it is not the answer. This is why an obsession over any measure is misguided. Performance is holistic.

Most would struggle to hold it for 400m I know that I can’t
I don’t think people really get how different elite marathoners are. A sub-2 marathon is 4:34 pace… for the full 26.2 miles. Most runners could train for years and still not hold that pace for a 10K, let alone a marathon. At that level, it’s not just discipline anymore. It’s talent, genetics, years of training, insane pain tolerance, perfect execution… and honestly, bodies that seem built for this in a way the rest of us just aren’t. Different game entirely.

I finished! 3:03:42 gave everything I had after the SDW50 but had no top gear with a bit of a fade in the last 3 miles. Can’t complain as I haven’t specifically trained for this race but really enjoyed the day. Didn’t want to waste the chance to enjoy the best atmosphere:

Let’s see how the legs manage 15 days after the SDW50. The pressure is off so have a free hit at this one. First non Nike @LondonMarathon since 2014 🤞

A tip for amateur exercisers: Weight vests can be great for walking. Don't try to run in them. I've seen an increasing number of folks running with a weight vest. Running already puts you under high forces/stress. All your doing is increasing the injury risk with little benefit

There is no sound on earth like the collective heartbeat of the Comrades Marathon start line. 📷 In 53 days, you’ll be standing in the dark, surrounded by thousands of strangers who feel like family, all waiting to face the road together. Let the memory of this start line carry you through your peak training weeks. The courage you feel then is built in the miles you do now. #SkaFelaMoya #ComradesMarathon #TheUltimateHumanRace #Startline

Finally got my answer from @LondonMarathon They no longer give the £2 discount for @EnglandAthletic affiliated runners. Appreciate it’s only a small amount but it’s the principle and more events are going down that route. Was a good selling point for clubs too.

All these longevity and performance bros talking about clean eating and toxins and yet all the serious athletes who actually train hard…

What's the best predictor of world-class performance in runners? Volume of Training. You've got to spend a lot of time doing the thing if you want to get good at just about anything.

On the subject of cheap kit. I’ve run the majority of my ultras since 2017 (1st pic) in this CRIVIT T-shirt from Lidl. Was about £5.

There's a phenomenon in running that applies to the rest of the world: It's the beginner runners who deck themselves out in all the gear. They try to look the part they've been sold. As they gain experience, they ditch most of the gear. And show up with the basic necessities.

Consistent running but quite a way off the heights of 2021. No detonation just can’t move the legs as fast as I could. (When I was banging out a much higher weekly mileage during Covid times)

@BritAthletics @EnglandAthletic @BA_Paralympic Hi all. Can anyone cast any light on the removal of Paralympic athlete’s performances from the new @ProD_Running Power of Ten website? #Diversity #Inclusivity #Equality

Getting stuck into full-on taper mode ahead of the SDW50 on Saturday. My run round the block today had as much elevation as some influencers have managed all year. No wonder they can jog so fast.

The first ⁦@LondonMarathon⁩ was held on this day in 1981. Here, courtesy of @chrisfinill who has run all of them in an average of sub 3 hours, is a full set of the finishers medals for all 45 years. #everpresent

Here are some Easter eggs from the 1980's with no mention of Easter on the packaging. My personal favourite was the Lion Bar one. Can we all move on from this now please?

🧵And we're off, ladies and gentlemen! It's "they're banning the word EASTER" week. Regular as clockwork... So here comes a history lesson and media lesson all rolled into one thread! PS, I can't believe there's no easter egg emoji? This was the best I could do - 🗿🥚 🤣 I digress! 1/19
